Well I perform similiar steps as IHoe w/ exception of burn speed. I rip w/ dvdd, edit with dvdrm v 3.06, then encode w/ dvdrb v 0932 pro/cce v 2.70.1.4, then burn with Nero but seldom over 4x. Rip time 15 min average, edit time 15-30 min, then to encode a 7.06 gb folder for eg. takes right at 2 hours, burn time 12 min.

I can't justify spending 2 hours 30-45 min editing and encoding and then sacrificing a few minutes to burn.

Count yourselves lucky those of you who can burn in under an hour. It takes me about 45 minutes at least to copy then another 45 to burn

It shouldn't take you that long to burn unless your only burning at 1x.Have you checked to see if your data transfer in in DMA, instead of PIO?
Have a look at this thread.

I think we all feel the way Mort does...... why spend the time to just burn fast when quality counts............ don't skimp, it will pay off in the long run. But....... at the same time........ if you have the computer that is new and fast..... why not...... I used to burn at 16x but now at 8x ...... cost in time.... 2 mins or so......but still puts out a great DVD! The time will only go as fast as the media and your hardware will allow it to go..... soooooo what's the hurry!

I'm not sure Jim, I think i changed it to DMA after i fixed my drivers but I hadn't tried copying one again yet, let me try again when I get home. I'm at work now. Now i know its DMA when available and i read the thread about 6 errors or whatever.. so does it automatically go back to DMA itself? or do I have to set it each time?

No you have to switch it over like that thread said,and if it doesn't change you have to uninstall the drivers(but you already did that)

I would think that burning the DVD should not be the problem..... it's decrytion and encoding that is and you shouldn't rush that..... but once you have a movie ready for burning...... do it right ..... burn at slower speads to assure quality and reliability. Who cares about a min or two in burning speads???!!!! it shouldn't matter. Are we beating the dead horse long enough???

@RNR
if you want speed.... use CloneDVD2 with DVD43 or AnyDVD..... burn with confidence, take out all you want from a DVD and it's under 20 mins!!! but you know something..... I'm waiting for this Tuesday to find out if DVDDecryter, DVDRemake, DVDREbuilder, and burn with CopytoDVD makes better quality out ripping and encoding a NEW DVD than doing it with CloneDVD2 and DVD43! If you want quality then going with the CCE in Rebuilder is the way to go. CloneDVD2 is great for quick and easy but quality we shall seeeeeeee.

hi - i read on here about all these programs everyone uses to make a copy of a dvd - taking alot of time from what i read - i am pretty new to this but is there a good reason to use all those other programs taking hours when you can use dvdshrink - and dvdclone 2 - and be done in 25 mins. - i have a 8x burner and burn at maximum speed - i hardly run into problems and all come out great - the picture is perfect and sound is also - so i dont understand what benefit would you get by using all those other programs ?? - i usually take everything out of the dvd besides the main movie to get the best picture from it - unless it fits on the disk without removing them - and sometimes i still take them out anyway - since no ones wants to wait 20 mins before watching a movie anyway - if there is a big difference and i just dont understand it -- please let me know about it-- maybe i can get a better copy from doing it different ways - but so far i had on complaints - i used Riteck R03 disks - work great under the maxell name from office depot -
thanks

i am trying to find out whats the difference -- from what i understand you are saying that there is better picture and sound doing it with the other programs - ? i have always used shrink and dvdclone 2 or Nero
would you be able to tell me which other programs i should try to compare the results -- i am new so if you can tell me in order which program to use and where to find the program -- i like to give it a try and see the difference myself - thanks :)

hi thanks for the info -- sounds nice but also sounds complicated -
the only problem i see is that CCE Basic leaves a logo on the stream it encodes ? so that would be useless i would guess - -- would i be able to skip CCE and still make a good copy ? if i cant skip CCE - is there any other open source problems that can replace it for the step

thanks :)
