thought of this last night...
OK, maybe we only rate the opposite sex based on how we rate ourselves.
Lets say that an attractive guy only gives himself a 5/10, when he sees an attractive women he is likely to give her a 9.
But when a guy gives himself a 10/10 that same girl will now only be a 7 or 8, because we rate others based on how we rate ourselves.
Explanes how for some people nobody is ever good enough, because they put themselves on such a high pedestule.
(This makes sense in my head, so if you guys dont get it ill try to put it in other words later.)

No, I get it... and I think that that's relitively true. But I think that the scale becomes logarithmic or something. Because the hottest woman on earth will always be a 10, so if a guy rates himself as a 1, that girl is still a 10, and a 5/10 girl ("objectively measured"), will be like an 8. I'm not sure that *I* just made any sense, but do you follow?

You say that the hottest girl on earth will always be a 10, i dissagree.
A unanimouse decition would be needed for that to happen, and that would never happen.
Lets say that the hottest girl on earth is Italian, well some people dont like Italian the most. (Doesnt have anything to do with race, just not everybodys prefered shade.)
What im saying is everybody has different taste, so someones 10/10 wont always be anothers 10/10.
p.s. im not sure if i got what you where saying 100% so tell me if im off base.

Nono, that's not what I mean.
I'm saying that if there were an objective scale, someone very low on it would see people far above them when they look at people at the top or at people towards the middle of the scale. Meanwhile, someone in the middle of the scale will see half the people as above them, and half as below, and will have an acute sense of where people close to him stand.
An example, if you will. And since this could potentially be considered racist, allow me to preface it with this: I like black people and latinos and asians just fine and don't think that being white I'm better than them or any ignorant crap like that. That being said, I shall continue.
As a white person (and being poor at recognizing faces), when I see a group of hispanic people standing on the corner, I see them all as hispanic people (though I try damn hard not to just think of them all as "Mexican"), and I can't pick out a puerto-rican or a guatemalan or a costa rican. Likewise when looking at black people, I can't distinguish between a Zulu and a Gambian. To me they all look like black people. But for a group of white people, I can pick out if they're Italian, German, French, British (like me!), Russian, or whatever, usually with a high degree of accuracy.
So, in relation to hotness, a 5 will be able to really accurately measure 3.5-6.5, but a 9.5 and a 10 will look about the same. So, his scale gets crunched up at the top and bottom, with a 9.5 becoming a 9.9, because to him a 9.5 looks almost exactly the same as a 10. But 3.5-6.5 becomes 2.0-8.0, because he can see all the subtle gradients therin.
Do you follow? It's kind of a weird concept, and I'm not explaining it very well...

I know what you mean and yes it is a very tough and touchy subject to try and explain. Let me try a bit and hopefully not get flamed by anyone for upsetting them. Sometimes I see a female who most guys say is so fine but she really is not like Julia Roberts who played in the move "Pretty Women" Some guys will say she is a 10. Me i would say maybe a 7 and that is pushing it. Generally people from diff ethnic backgrounds kind of look for diff things on a women to be considered fine. A women can be pretty as in the face, nice hair, DD size natural chest, flat stomach, and then no curve in the waist, pancake butt and some guys go crazy. Yeah i would think she looked pretty good too but some guys would rate that as a 10. IMO to be a 10 you have to have a "TOTAL PACKAGE". Face, hair, flat stomach, nice curves(not straight up and down when you look at a women from the front in the waist and hip area. That is one area that few women have and that includes a lot of the women that most guys would consider a dime. There should be a drastic chance in size from a womens chest area to her stomach getting a lot smaller and then getting larger again in the hips. Just an example is Jennifer Lopez for all of you who may not know what i mean when i say curves. I am just using her hour glass shape as an example not her butt which is a plus but you dont have to have that much junk in the trunk, just not flat either. She has a nice face, hair, coke bottle curves, nice butt, legs and thighs that are not skinny like some supermodels who weigh 92 lbs, and that sexiness that only certain ladies have is also important. I am sorry but i dont want her if she is not a lady. I mean how she acts by that. Their are small things that can keep a women from having that sexiness and being a lady IMO. For instance i am a african american male and i have notice that the majority of black females who think they are fine may be just that fine as hell but then loose points by not doing things like shaving legs, armpits. I am sorry if i offend someone but could you imagine getting into bed with your dreamgirl and she got a bush under her arm or rubbing hairy legs against your that have more hair than your own legs. LOL. That just aint lady like. I am not saying all african american females dont shave legs and pits, every women i have dated has been black and shaves. I am just saying that i have notice a larger percent dont compared to the caucasian background females. Pamela Anderson on the other hand is another example of a women who is very nice looking but does not have enough curves to be a 10. Now i know i am going to gets some flames from that comment but if you truely compare them from the front with a tigh fighting dress on or jeans that would allow you to see the curves you would notice that pam doensot have anywhere near the curves that J-lo does though man, she is nice everywhere else and still would be rated very high by any man. Just not a 10 IMO. Remeber the key is TOTAL TOTAL PAKCAGE. You cant have butt and a chest flat as a newborn baby. I am not saying you have to have an extreme butt, extreme breast, extreme curves, just some of everything.

That is very true. Some even settle for 3rd or 4th best. Now i know the saying that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that is true but it does not apply entirely in this situtation. If one of those remaining 190 people could have the personality of the mate that they choose and the body to boot of one of those women in the top ten then they would choose the body of a women in the top ten women and the personality that could be their soul mate it if they could. Most people cant have their cake and eat it too but if anyone were given the opportunity to have both they would probably not leave either one on the plate.

Let?s just say that I have been around the block, left home when I was 18 and married for the first time when I became 48. Several years in between to play the field, like that one movie with Burt Reynolds, ?The Man Who Loved Women.? Not to diss them or use them, just because I loved beautiful women. I?m no prize today at 54, got that middle aged belly ya know, but I can say that I could have been called one of the lucky ones on God?s list. I truly believe that most out there today just don?t appreciate how good they have it with their mates. I found my soul mate for life, my wife of 6 years, but only after I finally realized that enough was enough.
If looks were everything then what happens to the man that loses his legs, gets into an accident and gets disfigured? Should his wife or girlfriend say, See Ya?
There will always be somebody better looking, somebody with a better personality, or somebody with more money. When what?s inside matters more then those other things, then you find true beauty.

Good post, ScubaBud. I got married when I was 20 and my wife 18. We have been married for 35-1/2 years. I have never had any regrets. Is she a 10? In my eyes, she is. Not in appearance, but what is inside.
You young folks have fun. Sow your wild oats. There is nothing wrong with that. You may get as lucky as I did, and find the right one to spend your life with.
