An example of a p2p would be the ever popular Limewire, or other alternatives such as Frostwire, Ares Galaxy, Bearshare or Shareaza.

I only had Norton's System Works 2005 on my PC and Zone Alarm Pro and thought that I was covered until my browser(that would be IE ofcourse) was hijacked recently. I read the 'other' thread, which someone already made reference to in this thread and the advice so far has been very good. This Anti-Spyware thread like the previous one starts off in a similar fashion and I'm sure that 10 pages down the line they'll be similar because this is certainly a popular burning issue which all of us can't seem to get enough of...so as to get rid of. My point being that this subject can hardly be over-emphasized. Suffice it to say this has been my solution:
Antivirus Software:BOTH AVG Free Antivirus & EZ Antivirus(1yr free trial)which I run daily
Anti-Spyware: I run them in the following order, also daily. All FREE
1st Adware SE
2nd Spybot Search & Destroy
3rd a2 guard(I CANNOT OVERSTATE the benefit of this one)
I'm now 'presumably' free of all pests but the battle goes on. BTW, I also tried XoftSpy which does a good job of detecting spyware, but falls short on their removal. Cheers.

Nice job on this guide DVDback. I recommend those of you who have the Microsoft Spyware program to let it run a check daily. I think the default is 2:00 am. I followed DVDback's guide and it helped my computer, but I had to run the programs over and over again to rid my computer. The Microsoft program worked. It would find something every night for about 3 days and then it finally got it all clean. Now it finds nothing going on two weeks now.
Just my two cents.

There was one thing that was left out of this guide IMO and no disrespect to DVDBack23...
But why not just get a Macintosh and get rid of adware, spyware, trojans, pop-ups, etc. etc. permanently? I mean to me it seems easier, although more costly. anyway, just my 2¢ :)

Instead of buying a new computer, you could try something as simple as downloading Mozilla FireFox, or opera browser(both free). These less familar browser are somewhat imune to alot of the spyware that is out there because most of it is made to latch onto I.E.
Besides the benefit of almost no spyware, they have built in popup stoppers, not to mention either of the browser I mentioned are much faster than I.E.
Just my 2 cents

Yeah I suggest Mozilla FireFox,it seems quicker than I.E. and it doesn't have as much spyware as I.E and hardly has hackers and you'll see that more FireFox is more useful.

but what I was saying is it doesn't minimize the adware, Spyware, & Viruii it completely REMOVES it from the equation. There are *NONE* for OS X :) But yes, IE sucks both on Windoze and Macs...
