this method works for me with all my episodics so far... posted this a few days ago..... dvdone is great but for episodics reducing maxed out dvd9 disks to 4.37gb makes for some ugly images...... imho only use dvdone if the movie is 6gb or under even then i am a little leary ... dont feel real good about it unless its like 5.4 or less...... really....

So the way Loaded describes in the DVD Decrypter / DVD2ONE 1.1.1 part of this thread is the best way to go? The only reason I ask is that I was looking to Back-up my Friends, Buffy & Angel (sad I know) and Sopranos (and eventually Band of Brothers when I get it).

So will the way Loaded described manage all these including the Friends ones as the epsiode files would be smaller, I just heard that it was pretty hard for DVD Decrypter to recognise the files if they were smaller.

Oh and I forgot to mention the Friends DVD's are only 3.6Gb at the most with 4 episode on each DVD so will this make it easier since it'll be a double sided DVD-5 or am I way off target?

You are way off target. If the original is less than 4.36 GB already, then you don't even need to process with DVD2ONE, just use the single program solution, DVD Decrypter.

If your DVD is bigger than 4.36GB, however it is made up, episodes, menus etc, you CAN cram it all onto one DVD-R with DVD2ONE, but you will lose some video quality. How much depends on how much bigger it is. Think of it like a London Bus in rush hour. They are allowed to take 96 passengers. You can fit more, but it gets a little sweaty ;-)

techzero,

What was the process for splitting a large episodic DVD disk into 2 DVD disks? I'm struggling with that now. If you compress a disk too much, it loses its integrity. I currently use the suggestions as put forward by Barry at this site for burning episodic disks:
http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=146795

Problem is, I want to split these into separate disks so the quality is maintained. I would DVDXcopy, but it doesn't even recognize more than half the disk. At least with the decrypter, dvd2one, ifoedit, and Gear I'm able to get the job done. I just want to be able to maintain a level of quality if possible. Thanks for your help. Is there a guide for doing this?

Techzero, how did you do this?

VOBrator to see which VOB ID's went to each Episode, then used IFO Edit to extract the ID's,
any tutorials anywhere?
