hazzyeyed,
Try cleaning the DVD real well and then try again. If it failes again then it could be a faulty mastering problem ( bad press or bubbles, or scratches) and it should be returned for an exchange

Hi All. I am trying to Rip Star Wars 3 and followed the instructions of alkohol exactly. It still ripped but came back with an error code about 10 seconds into the conversion. Here is the code:

BRUTE FORCE CRACKING FAILED
DEVICE [0:0:0] Pioneer DVD-RW
DVR-106d 1.07 (G:) (USB)
FIleName VTS_01_0.VOB
Reason: The algorithm failed.

Can anyone explain what this means? I use a 4x Lacie external DVD burner.

Please Help as I want to correct thsi problem.

GREAT WEBSITE! I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE FOUND IT!

P8ntbal,
I want you to try it this way as we will get an error code if there is a problem. That error code you got means the decryption program could not rip the disk you have.

Clean the disk real well first.

1. We will Rip the Disk using DVDDecrypter and AnyDVD. You setup DVDDecrypter like this:

2. In DVDDecrpter go to >Tools > Settings> I/O >and make sure a Check Mark is by ELBYCDIO- Elaborate Bytes

3. Start AnyDVD ( d/l site below)

4. Insert Disk in drive and look at the taskbar and when you see the foxes head go red, AnyDVD is now ready.

5. Rip the disk to HD ( all of the files)

6. Process the files you ripped on the HD w/ either Shrink or Nero Recode or what ever program you are using

AnyDVD: http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html
There is a 21 day Free trial offer.

Car.Mike,

Thanks for the FAST response!! The thing is, after the I got the error code, the process continues and it did rip the rest of the files to the folder I created. When I double clicked on the Video_TS file and opened it with intervideo win dvd-4 it played the movie on my PC. I have not yet tried to shrink it and burn it to a blank dvd but I figured I would first try to get the process down 100% before I moved along.

I have never used Shrink or Nero recode. I do however have Roxio Media Creater 8. Is that acceptable to use to burn? Does that have a shrink feature? I just got it and haven't burned anything yet.

Does anyone use DVD X-COpy (321 studios) anymore? I still have the program and it works with 80% of the movies I burn. It did NOT however work for Star Wars 3 which is why I am here right now. I am trying to learn the best methods available as I can no longer count on 321 studios support since they were shut down.

I'll try the method you listed below. Can you answer my questions above?

P8ntbal,
Most people use Nero to burn but Roxio should work. I have not used it in 4+ years as it started causing problems burning DVD for others because of the packet writing software it uses.

One of the members on the forum here wrote these guides that are below:

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm

The first one is using all freeware and you maybe should start there as the price is right( free)

If you have AnyDVD (21 day trial version) you can use that along w/ X-Copy to do the movies

I don't have Roxio 8 anymore, but used 7 and if I remember right keep your files in ISO mode cause I dont think it burns VIDEO_TS files. But then you can use Decrypter to do that too. Personal preference I guess.

Can someone explain the capacities of the latest DVD's? I keep seeing DVD-5 and DVD-9. Currently I have a Lacie 4x that burns normal 4.7GB DVD-R. The problem I have found is that after going through the DVD Decrypter the file was too large. When I used Shrink choosing only the main title and excluding foreign audio and subtitles and chapter menu, I STILL had to use compression to get it on a DVD-R.

My Question. I just bought an ASUS DRW-1608P that says it can burn 6xDL (DVD + -R Double Layer) If I used a double layer DVD and this drive to burn the complete movie, I won't need to compress using Shrink or exclude and DVD features right? I'd like to retain ALL features on the movie and NOT compress to compromise quality of playback.

I have no experience with dual layer DVD's. Can anyone suggest a good brand for burning movies to them?

Thanks ALL!!

A couple more questions.

Someone asked this question a couple weeks ago and no-one answered him. Why are the two movies labeled Charolotte?

Also, Why doesn't anyone seem to use DVD X-Copy on here? It seems so much faster then using three different programs and multiple settings to burn a movie. Star Wars 3 is 1 of only a few movies out of 100 I have burned without problem using X-COpy.

Anyone know another one program soulution like DVD X-Copy?

"Charlotte" was the code name used for the Episode 3 DVD development project. Code names are typically used for high-profile releases for security reasons. Here's a fun article on the topic:

As for a one-piece solution, the best things in life are free. Shrink + Nero (sorry, you'll have to buy Nero) is the best combination for 99% of everything. You may be able to find an older or trial version of Nero free if you look hard enough. I have *never* had a disc that Shrink couldn't handle, though many here have if you browse the boards. I've been lucky - my taste in movies has inadvertently avoided any "problem" titles.

If burning to a DL disc, there is no need to even open DVD Shrink since you won't be needed to compress anything. Simply do a ISO Read and a ISO Write in DVD Decrypter to make a 1:1 identical copy.
