Thanks. I'll look into it. I only have a DVD burner. Will this work with only one DVD drive? Or do you need the second unit to read the disk?

Many people only have one drive. To reduce errors, it is best to go from DVD to hard drive, then hard drive to blank DVD write disc. Many of the AD addicts avoid ripping "on the fly" (from one burnrer to the other, bypassing hard drive). You only need one burner for the better method anyway so better results are a bonus of only one burner.

I am currently using DVD Shrink on another computer and it's working. I think my DVD burner has problems. This is the second disk I had difficulty backing up. Great. My second DVD burner in about a year.

I just copied WOTW last night. I did have a little with it. I couldn't get DVD43 to do anything with it. I did get DVD Shrink to copy it. I just copied the main feature without deep analysis or that other thing in the quality settings box. I used Nero 6.6 ultra. Copy came out just fine.

I wouldn't think its your burner if other movies work and not this one but you said it works on a different pc so thats shoots that theory dead. Have you checked for firmware on that burner? Check out the DVD±R drives forum with burner questions, everyone there will diagnose this better than I can (unless you have a BEnq 1640). I think its a different problem than shrink, but don't go buy a new burner yet till you check up on the one you have.

Trying to back up WOW to play in the car. I've tried everything I have and can not get it copied. Shrink with DVD43 and AnyDVD only runs to 54% and freezes with both combos, DVDfab gets errors and fails. DVDcopyX also failed. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any help

You shouldn't be watching movies in the car. Unless you're one of those passengers who get really bored. lol

kenpofist,

This movie was a piece of cake to duplicate, it could probably be duplicated directly to the blank using DVD Shrink. It would be interesting to try that but I don't have the commercial disk any more.

Below is the AnyDVD report on the WOTW's retail DVD, really only CSS protection.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Media is a Data DVD.
Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite)

Video DVD (or CD) label: WAR_OF_THE_WORLDS
Media is CSS protected!
Video Standard: NTSC
Media is locked to region(s): 1!

RCE protection not found.
DVD structure appears to be correct.
Structural copy protection not found.
Autorun not found on Video DVD.
Bad sector protection not found.
Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1!
--------------------------------------------------------------

If everything is failing to duplicate this movie, the two obvious potential problems that come to mind are;

1. A defective movie DVD.

2. Not enough Hard Drive space to write the interim files during the decoding, shrinking, and burning processes.

Running DVD43 and AnyDVD on the same PC may be causing a conflict, has anybody got any input on this issue? DVD43 is a great tool and the price is certainly right but, I took the plunge and purchased AnyDVD as they do an outstanding job of keeping the software updated to catch and fix the latest and greatest encryption schemes.

Good Luck,

MM

I've read that there is a definate conflict between DVD43 and AnyDVD. If you run them both you will have issues. I am pretty sure that the latest version of AnyDVD will ask if you want to uninstall DVD43.

9mmruger1,

Thanks for the confirmation, I suspected a potential conflict situation and you have confirmed it!

I also believe from reading this thread that I may have a problematic DVD. I have been using dvdfab, DVD43 w/Shrink and have never really had any issues backing up my DVD's. I only downloaded AnyDVD in an attempt to copy WOTW.
