i own a ps2, and some of the graphics ive seen on the x-box 360 looks good, but wouldnt microsoft sell more of them if they had free xbox live, like the ps2 and dont have to order a subscription. you pay enough for the xbox alone then you have to order a package to play online.
that sucks.

You lucky sods!
We're still over a week away from launch day here in the UK and even then I have not pre-ordered so I guess I'll have to wait a little longer. I remember the PS2 launch and thinking how lame it was, no decent games and to me the console did not live up to it's hype until MGS2 and GT3 arrived. And as for you people trying to hack the box I think it;s disgusting, it's not even out a week and you are trying to hack it. Let me know when you;'ve cracked it okay! (by the way this was a joke so please no flame wars). One thing I'd like to know, was (or is) the xbox 360 still sold out in most stores or are there plenty about?
Thanks and enjoy your new console.

Im what you call a mature gamer or old fart to some .I have 2 teenage sons the three of us love gaming pc ,or console etc.I preordered the x box 360 of amazon uk back in september.I have enquired and am in top 50 orders basically almost certain to get one.But being honest scanning round a multitude of forums etc the problems with the 360 are quite widespread ,tied in with the fact the games released and due to be released are basically pitiful and the cost,I am within a click of cancelling it..If you have a reasonable PC you will be able to gain better graphics etc a better choice of games .My opinion and it is my opinion that the PSX3 is going to wipe the floor with the 360 better games better specs and the main developers on board. The launch titles for the 360 beggar belief. As in all new console releases there are probs at first. You can build the most fantastic ass kicking machine in the world and make it look good but its all about gameplay and delivering somthing innovative MS have forgotten about the game no eye popping releases

I would consider myself an older gamer too. From what I've seen though, Perfect Dark, PGR3 and Kameo all look rather impressive. Sure no killer app yet but this now seems to be par for the course these days. How many killer apps did the PS2 have from launch day? None in my opinion while Xbox had Halo which was a great game but not really anything to shout about graphically speaking (having been a PC gamer for years now). So I guess as the system matures I'm sure we will see some amazing things from the Xbox, I mean it has 3 cores running at 3.2ghz....now THAT is impressive. I think Microsoft have made a few major mistakes with the release of Xbox 360 let's hope they can rectify them soon. All the while those clever little guys at Sony R&D must be taking lots of notes of what NOT to do with PS3 on launch day. I've juts been told by Game that after Dec 2nd there will be NO more Xbox 360's until Feb. If this is the case I'm sorry Mr Gates, you;ve juts lost a customer. I'm pretty sure however there will be more units up until xmas and plenty just after.

Yep Im sure it will mature ,as time goes by ,and Ive no doubt there eventually will be games to match the technology, but in the short term ill buy a few good PC games ,play online with 20,32,64 people.Im going to take a step back and let the dust settle so to speak my order is cancelled. It is always good to be the first at something and in relation to new technology Ive always been a bit impulsive ,this time Im deciding to wait too many ifs and buts. One things for sure the Japanese market will not be impressed, with the releases,2006 will be an interesting year

Hehe, we sure are showing our age now. I think you must be the only person in the world that has cancelled an order for an Xbox 360. I've just gone the other way and am selling my current gaming rig as I don't want to keep shelling out money every 6 months on a new cpu or gfx card, the Xbox 360 or PS3 will be a much cheaper alternative for me to PC gaming (only becasue I HAVE to have the latest PC components a habit that I can no longer justify). If I manage to get an Xbox this side of Xmas I will put it on ebay for a reasonable mark up, if people are willing to pay why not cater for them!?

the graphical leap from playstation up to sya the dreamcast and ps2 was impressive because we went from having blocky characters and scenery to having a more detailed scenery and rounded chracters. the jump up to ps3 and xbox 360 isnt going to be as impressive because the ps2 and xbox have reached high levels of realism anyway. as for launch lineups, the 360's is the mostimpressive of the past decade. pdz looks geat, if you ever played pd on the n64 or bond then youl know its by the same poeple and these first 2 games were great.i was still playing these whilst my ps2 was gathering dust. the japanese may not be impressed but why would anyone be impressed with ps3? we've yet to see game footage and the only decnet game coming out is mgs and since metal gear solid on the ps the games have gradualy got worst. ive got mine pre ordered and if the guy who canceled his preorder was clever enough to see this then he would have kept his pre order and sold it for twice the price he paid for it on ebay

LOL well my better half has stopped me cancelling at mo,but do you really want to spoil someones xmas by selling a duff 360 looking at reports though slightly exaggerated, up to 15% failure rate thats after a couple of days.
As for PDZ the way Im reading it like you say it looks great but ,does it offer the gamer any new in terms of gameplay dont think so,all Im saying at the mo.Id rather wait than dish out dosh then regret it.It wont be that long before we find out.Sony like MS cant afford to fail and havent yet

But most sequels these days are just the same old game with a new set of graphical tricks. I guess that's enough for the youngsters these days. My little brother is going spare at the thought of not having one on launch day. I remember being like that about the PSX (the
first one). Although on day one it cost £400 and I certainly could not afford it. He ordered his back in August and is still not sure if he is getting one. I on the other hand just phoned somewhere and managed to secure a core package for the 2nd! How jammy. I hear ebay calling me!

whoever said this:
"I guess no one will ever match the graphical leap the Playstation 2 and XBOX went from the Playstation."
There was no leap from PS1 to PS2!!! fair enough, for sony maybe,
But inbetween them machines were the N64 and Dreamcast, which along the way stepped up the graphical standard bit by bit. So fair enough, the PS2 was a huge leap from PS1 I agree with that. But that's not the point becasue that is teh same as comparing the N64 to a SNES rather than the PS1, any anyway, the dreamcast has done stuff that still looks better than anything I have seen on PS2 !!!

i agree, seeing something like shenmue on the dc was great. i donth think ps2 could do that easily. but what im saying is that there was a jump from the blocky characters of ps1 and n64 upto a superb graphical standard of ps2 and dc. the ps graphics are unplayable if you try playing one. i just dont think that there will be that uch of a jump again

Hmm,
I think I disagree with you on that one. The PS1 and N64 were totally different generations of hardware. PS1 was a 32 bit platform while the N64 ushered the 64bit technology. I remember buying the N64 on release day and Mario 64, Shadows of The Empire, Pilotwings 64, Donkey Kong 64 etc, they were leaps ahead of PS1 games in terms of graphics. They might not seem it now but back then they sure were. There never seems to be a 'huge' leap as technology is moving so quickly, this is most evident in the PC gaming market when 6 montsh down the line your £400 graphics card is rendered 'obselete' by something that is 100mhz quicker. When I think back to Ps1 it may seem that all of a sudden PS2 and Xbox are so clearly huge leaps ahead but there were many small steps in between that we sometimes forget about. Happy gaming!

I've always been a playstation fan and never wanted to spend to get an xbox. But then i saw all the wonderfull things you could do with the xbox (after being modded of course) and so i got the 360. Right now, its not anything extraordinary. As someone else mentioned.. its not as big of a leap compared to ps1 to ps2 but I am still impressed with the graphics and it is obvious.. I'm also playing it on a HD tv.. not like WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW but still , i still noticed the difference. I played GUN and its a pretty good game even thoughr eviews weren't great.. you can see alot more details in pictures and textures..and character movement/animation is alot better i think, thats one thing i noticed, they move more like humans instead of rendered machines.. Project Gotham is pretty good too.. graphics etc.. and online play.
anyway, hopefully someone will mod it soon and then I can start really playing

And then the wrost happen the damn game froze three time while playing it then the controller stopped working ok you spend just about all the money you saved up to get a non working console just as i said before im waiting yrs before i get anything don't care for REV or PS3 release date im waiting.

bs bs bs all those envy people that cannot get an xbox 360 are saying it sucks, you know what, it DOESNT. It rocks and it is way superior than your shi**y ps2 or xbox1.
couldnt get one or you dont have the money? that's fine but stop talking s**t about it cos you know it isnt true.
man im tired of this, everytime a good console is released we have a ton of bullsh***ers around with high envy levels, freaking retards go play your stupid ps1 and stop bothering the ones that are enjoying the 360
it absolutely rocks, dont believe those idiots that say it doesnt. If you dont believe me go to a compusa or walmart play an xbox360 kiosk and get a hold of call of duty 2. Make sure the xbox is set to 720p or 1080i if the tv supports it and widescreen. Then judge for yourself . You'll agree, it rocks

I've just played the 360. A demo of Call of Duty 2 in a local gamestation. While it looked good I have to say those jaggies were hideous. I thought the xbox has 2xAA in every game? I'm hoping this was a pre release version demo!

Hey guys, I read in a music mag once that people are too quick these days to express their love for one style of music, as a hate for other styles instead of concentrating on what they like about it!
example. People who aere into house will often slag off trance, rather than saying what they like about house, and V V. shouldn't people who are into music, just be into music?
It's the same for consoles, why slag other machines of, we are all on the same side here, we all love games!
I agree with the guy who said that there we forget about the little steps in between these so called huge leaps, the N64 was smack in the middle for graphics in between the PS1 and PS2, and the only people who were 'wowwwwwwwwwed' by the PS2 were the ones still used to the PS1, after N64 gamers had enjoyed pixel free gaming for ages. But the PS2 still has good graphics, and so does the 360, and so will the PS3, and it will keep gettin better forever until one day you can't tell if it's a game on your screen or a dvd playing, so lets all just enjoy the ride!
One thing I will say is that new machines seem to be coming out too quickly. When the dreamcast, follwed by PS2 came out, we were ready for the 'next gen' as PS1 and then N64 had done all it can to impress us. I think the current generation, and xbox especially still looks good and I've just started playing the king kong game and it's still 'wowwwwwwwwing' me on a console which is apparently obsolete.

Consoles these days have a very short shelf life. I remember when you expected a console to be around for at least 5 years. Now it seems that 2-3 years something supercedes it. This is a by-product of consumer demand and also the development of cheap new technology. I would say that it's 'just' new techonolgy but that would be wrong. If a company like Microsoft or Sony were to make a console where money was no object, I think we would be astounded at what can be achieved even today. It's making that technology as cost efficient as possible that is the real battle. Anyway as chrisfunk says we ALL love games, so just enjoy the ride to digital heaven! Choose which console you like but by appreciating others doesn't mean you are being unfaithful to your chosen brand. It's a consumers market out there, so make the most of it guys.

that's it, it's all down to the money! The other thing is, consoles never seem that far ahead of PC's anymore.
I remember when the PS1 came out and my mate had a £2000 PC, which I think was a Pentium One, 150mhz or something (I was soooo jealous at the time with my Amiga 1200 !!!) The PC could only just manage to run tomb raider in a little 3x4" window whilst the PS1 did it full speed, full screen. Even the N64 was way ahead when it came out as the best PC at the time was something like a PII 500mhz with a Voodoo 1 graphics card (I had managed to get a PC by then). Mario 64 wiped the floor with any PC graphics at the time.
Then from then onwards, every console that comes out is dissed by PC gamers who reckon their machine is way more powerful with some monster £500 graphics card. Fair enough the cost difference is huge but the fact remains that a new consoles should always make your eyes pop out because you have never seen something so good before.
Wouldn't it be nice if Mr gates fell on his head one day and went a bit crazy. "I know, lets combine the power of 10 360's and put it in one box, and then sell it for £100!!!!" :)

LOL! Hey Chris maybe we should fix it so that Mr Gats fell on his head! I've built myself a pretty amazing gaming rig (check my sig) and as of yet I haven't seen a console that can match it. BUT.....then I saw some of the footage for PGR3 on Xbox 360 and also MGS4 on PS3. I mean I doubt even my £2'500 PC could match those visuals. Console's seem the be the way of the future and sure as hell seem more cost efctive thn building a top of the line PC. Also more and more consoles are built with many PC functionalities (ripping music, broadband etc). I mean PC's will always have their place but lately PC's have ruled the roost for visuals in games. That time is coming to a close. Well, at least until the Quad-core CPU's come out in 2007! But then who wants to spend £900 on a CPU when you can buy a console for less than half that price that still has stunning games.

yeah, the 360 footage looks amazing for PGR3, I'm still impressed by PGR2 on current xbox! I don't know if many people ever noticed this but if you used the 'fly by' camera view on MSR for the dreamcast, you could see the brake calipers closing on the discs behind the alloy wheel spokes!!! I haven't seen that much attention to details on any game since.Goes to show power is nothing is the game designers get lazy!
That PC sounds like a monster! I don't know much about PC gaming, mines only an Athlon 2800 with 512 ram and an ok'ish graphics card.
But my experience is that PC games on a decent machine will run very smoothly, without the dropped frames rates which haunt most consoles when they are pushed. And also they look very sharp, because they are running at a higher rez on a monitor rather than a TV, but apart from that, they always look like they are a PC game where as consoles seem to have their own graphical style. If you run the same game on the cube, PS2 and xbox I'm pretty sure i could tell you which one was which every time, and it's not just a case of which one is 'best'. Xbox is always very sharp, PS2 seems to have a slightly bland but more 'realistic' range of colours and then the CG always has fantastic colours and shading (can't imagine Pikmin looking that good on an xbox even if it is more powerful!)
But this time round, the consoles support HDTV (and I've just got a nice big HD LCD!!!) so that's one advantage the PC has just lost. I think consoles always lack 'speed' in proportion to what graphics they can display. Turok2 on the N64 in high rez mode looked gorgeous if you were standing still, but start running away fron a raptor through all that scenery and it runs like some old silent movie which ruined it! Even the new Kong game on xbox looks sooooooooooooo good in places but then the frame rate lets it down a bit.
I'm rambling now!
