I hear you man. Being new to dvd burning the HPs were actually the very first blank dvd media that i purchased after I picked up my first burner several weeks back. I kinda figured they were crappy after i burned 12 straight coasters. That was when I visited this site and was made aware of the importance of quality when it came to dvds. After reading about what types of manufacturers and brands to avoid, I returned the second pack of HPs that I picked up on the initial purchase and started looking for deals on the good stuff such as TY, Verbatim and Maxell.

Thanks to you as well as the other helpful members of this forum, I've learned quite a bit about the intricacies of burning, what I thought were simple, dvds.

I ordered and recieved Genuine TY's from Shop4Tech last month, they are listed as Taiyo Yuden, with the 10% off code they shipped for $28.00. DVD Identifier lists them as TYG01, burn at 4x and I've not had a problem with them at all. You'll be happy with them once you get them.
I've been using Shop4tech for about 2 years now, previously only ordered Ritek G-03, G-04's from them and never had a problem-stopped using them once I found out that Office Depot's in house brand were Ritek G-04 and G-05's and was happy until the 16X's turned out to be RICCOHJPN's. Let me know how you make out on the deal.

mrsftball- just do a little checking if I may quote the Good Doctor KIvory 666 - Quote " also, i was one of the unlucky FEW that got Fake TYs from Shop4Tech a few years ago, so, at least for ME personally, i will NEVER order from them again~ :) that's just me...but, rima.com as well as supermediastore.com are good online buys~ :) (when on sale of course, just do a little price shopping between them)

good luck

docTY`# perhaps they have changed since then but why risk it ? The Good Doc Ty also went onto say that although Shop4tech took the media back they made him pay shipping back to them ! mrsftball hey If they get you the media and you are happy then good ! everyone likes a good deal & free shipping too ! Just would rather deal with companies with better reputations such as those mentioned by Kivory666 ! with perhaps the inclusion of newegg.com when they have good media on sale Of course ! have dealt with them many times good prices & service ! And sometimes you can get nearly the same price or lower for dvd media locally at any of the the big tech chains - BestBuy, Compusa, OFFICEDEPOT , OfficeMax, Staples ect!! Even wallyworld ! you can take the sale paper to the store & they will match price on same item ! did that Black friday & got some Maxells/ Riteks for %4.99 ea. & tax 25ct. cakebox saved me a trip too ! well mrsftbal! good luck with your media & burning hope it works out for you ! Happy Burning & Happy Holidays ! -Rx Take two Taiyo Yudens & call me in the morning LOL! Ciao!

Thanks for all the input. I'll let you know the turnout of this situation. I hope I have the same luck as blivetNC. You never know, I have done the Nero dvd disk quality test on Memorex and ritek brand DVD+R and both have 100% quality so far.

@bigtoxy69

well, i guess over the years, Shop4Tech.com has improved their reputation for selling media that they advertise; as of late, many members have ordered from them and got the "REAL DEAL"...so, i praise them for THAT fact alone~ :)

but, as you quoted me from above, i PERSONALLY do not like "getting burned twice," however slim that possibility MIGHT be nowadays :)

for all those that have/are ordering from them(shop4tech), GREAT, i sincerely hope you get the GENUINE Taiyo Yudens for such a good price, i have more than enough TYG01s to last me for a VERY long time, but when you have a coupon code & free shipping AND assuming you get the genuine article, that deal is VERY hard to pass up~ :)

my experience with Shop4tech just happened to be a very poor one, but, hey, that's just 1 experience out of the thousands of people that order from them regularly. perhaps they have changed their "shady" ways from before, mind you, i ordered from them about 3 years ago...a LOT of time has passed since i got scammed, so, they just might be a good/trustworthy company now~ :)

due to my limited experience with Shop4tech, i have no right and can NOT condemn them forever, but, i would still not recommend them; however, with a lot of people here on AfterDawn "getting what they paid for", you might be just fine here mrsftball~ :) once u get them on Monday or whenever, check on the hub (just outside the hold in the middle) for this laser inscription:

GD000xxx (where xxx is the batch number of when these TYs were made, if you got a more recently produced batch, the number might be something like GD001234-for example-) :)
but, the verify they are authentic, the "GD" beginning MUST be there if they are the 4x DVD-R (TYG01), if they are the 8x dvd-r(TYG02), it will be GG000xxx.

good luck and happy holidays all

docTY~

@kivory666
Don't get me wrong, I'm very thankful for all your advice and you insight. and I am a little leary about using them after your previous experiences, perhaps they learned their lesson long ago that in the new info age your reputation can be written off forever by several documented posts on forums such as these when you try to sham someone on inferior merchandise. I've had 6 orders within the past three years and not had a problem with one yet and the pic of the bargain TY's displayed on supermediastore were the same as I got from Shop4tech. The code on the inner ring of the batch I have are GD000321. But, after glancing at Supermediastores's website, I will be ordering from them in the future due to the better selection and lower prices. But first I have to go through all of my FUJI MIJ's and this bundle of TY's before I need anymore disks. (Should be mid summer before I buy anymore at the rate I go thru them) Once again, thanks to all of the info you guys/girls have supplied me over the past year, don't think that I can ever thank you enough for all the help.
Burn on buddies!

@blivet

it's only MY personal, limited experience w/ Shop4Tech that left a bad taste in my mouth, i only tell it like it is...should others buy from them? well, all the power to them if they've been the genuine article and they've had success in the past ~ :) why fix it if it ain't broke right? i'm glad you've had several GOOD buying experiences from them, much more than i ever will have~ :)

but, most of my $$$ goes to supermediastore.com, that's just ME, i've had very pleasant buying experiences from them for a solid 2 years or so, maybe even a little longer...they've been great for me and that's WHY i suggest them to those looking for GENUINE TY media online; they're often times VERY competitive w/ pricing and when SMS has sales, it's just as low as the other competitors~

well, we all live and learn..hope you have continued success from whichever online retailer you decide to purchase from...good luck

docTY~
