I'm not sure you know what I'm asking. I don't think it is possible for me to do this. I don't have a crossover cable, and only one Network Card. I downloaded the software and my computer was unable to even install it. It didn't know what type of file it was. I think Xbox backups are out of the question, but at least I understand how the DVD works now. :)
"have a HDD with the bare minimum operating system files"
"I'd boot from that HDD only"
How would you only boot from an external HDD? Also, how would you boot from a HDD already installed in a PS2?
As for the PS2: I haven't bought it all yet. As soon as it all gets here I'll more than likely be asking a few more questions, but untill then, thanks for being good sports about all this. My knowledge of backing PS2 games up are 100% due to you two guys and I'm grateful.

i was making reference to using a separate HDD in/on your PC to boot from, this prevents software conflicts with the 'hack' programs. this is most likely the cause of your recent inability to install such software.

"with the memory card exploit you can directly load a few emulators that will make the PS2 play 100% like a super Nintendo or a Sega"
I just saw that. Really how? Do you know if it can play a game from Sega Genesis called Rocket Knight Adventures? I had that game a long time ago but lost it. I'd really like to play that again. Is it difficult to get a Sega/Nintendo emulator?
Like I said, I'm saving money up for the i-Station V43 which is Linux based. This has a few emulators out for it already (Sega, NES, SNES), but I'd be surprised to see RKA on there.

PGEN.ELF plays them all how? It's a bundle with every Sega game ever created? (I don't think 'cause it'd be a pretty huge file) Basically I want to know how I would choose which games I want and how it works. I don't have the cartridge anymore so is that needed? Thanks again.

don't take this the wrong way but doing a little google searching would help you out considerably as it seams your a bit lost in this whole getup.
PGEN is .ELF file. .ELF files are to a PS2 what an .EXE file is to your PC. this file once executed on the PS2 makes the PS2 an emulator that acts 100% like a Sega (Master and Genesis)you then have to load the rom (a dump of the game cartridge) from where ever you have it stored.
there are other emulators that do other systems.

and to add depending on the system in question the file sizes can be very small to very large per game. the old classic Nintendo games are only 8 bit games. i can compile the Roms of every NES game they ever made and put them on a 256 Megabit (not byte) flash cartridge for my Gameboy Advance and have allot of room left on the cart and be able to play all those games just as if they were in an original NES system.
all GBA games to date on the other hand take up just shy of 15 Gig and are stored on 2 dual layer DVDs. I'm not sure on the Sega Roms I've never had a need to play them, i only had Sonic for my niece to play when she was 3, she's now 16.
