My mini had panther pre installed on it, with upgrade disks. i upgraded to tiger, and have since installed up to 10.4.3. im not likely to downgrade just to fix the burning problem, because tiger has great features that i am not willing to sacrifice. if that being the case i would rather purchase an external burner, but at the moment i am waiting on apple to replace the hardware or upgrade the firmware. thanks for your help, and i will continue to post on the status of my problem. maybe it will help anyone in the same situation as me.

But did you ever manage to burn any DVDs in Panther, or did you just upgrade straight away to Tiger?

Can you post the drive details that your Apple Profiler gives you here and also your firmare? I came across another firmware site yesterday - perhaps they have an upgrade for your drive.
