Well you would be able to play it on an NTSC-US machine. The region is different, the only way you could play online is by playing it on an NTSC-Jap machine. You could change the your Console ID to NTSC-Jap with Paradox's ID Changer, but then you'd only be able to play NTSC-Jap games online. Paradox's Console ID Changer only works with v.1-8 PS2's, and then you'd need a vaild ilink and NTSC-Jap Console ID. Don't even think about asking for NTSC-Jap ID's, that violates every forum rule. You'll just have to look around if it's important to you.

I see that the process to play back-ups online [via patching DNAs] is very tedious. Is there any other shorter/easier route? Plus, i dont have a DVD reader.

Another thing is, in the patching instructions on http://www.ps2nfo.com/on-line.html , they mentioned alot of inserting original games. Problem is i dont have the original games, only back-ups!

Well the DNA's for most online capable games are all over the net.

20. Q. What are DNA's?
A. Any game made after 2003 for the PS2 that is online playable contains one or more image files that has a "disk
DNA checker." The online game server checks your game disk to see if it's the real thing or not. Thus, you have to discover which .img file on the game disc has the checker file.

21. Q. How do I patch DNA's?

22. Q. Where can I find DNA ID's?

Hmm well maybe the Search button at the top of the forums would, it won't hurt you. If you patch the backups DNA's you can play it online. You don't need to insert an original game to get a game's DNA ID, that's why they're all posted on the interent. If you had searched a little, you could've figured that out. Cheers!

Thing is, the patching instructions you provided, require original ps2 games to patch DNA's. And i dont have the original games.

No they don't you're just not reading them carefully.

In step 2)

Once DVD Decrypter is installed on your PC, insert your original
PS2 DVD-ROM game disc into your DVD reader drive and open the
DVD Decrypter application. Next, select MODE->iSO->READ,
select a Destination on your Hard Disk Drive and a File Name for your .iSO image, and then click the Decrypt. Button below
Assuming you have enough free space on your NTFS-formatted HDD, your PS2 DVD .iSO image will be made in several minutes!

Okay they're assuming in this step you're backing up an original, not burning an iso you acquired. This step is irrelevant if you have a copy of the game iso. If your original copy is long gone, look at the DNA threads to figure what the ID is for that game.

In Step 3): If you are using a Magic or Messiah series PS2 mod-chip:
To obtain a valid Disc ID, load the Disc ID Utility in your PS2. Next, press the EJECT button and put the original PS2 game disc in. Now, press and HOLD the EJECT button (closes the PS2 drive tray) and press the X button on your controller at the same time to bypass the mod-chip. To verify, continue to hold down the EJECT button while pressing the X button a few more times to ensure the Disc ID you are obtaining is VALID.

Again this step involves getting an ID from an original games. The DNA ID's from most games can be found in the DNA threads I linked to earlier. You don't need an original disc in any part of this process. For copyright reasons, they're assuming you have an original disc, much like we do here on AD. If you don't, use the DNA ID's threads. Read a little more carefully this time. If this process is confusing to you, read over my FAQ or search for DNA ID's, there's tons of info about on AD.

Hey, Tokijin. Sorry for being such a pain in the ass.

But im really confused even after checking out some of the other threads on AD.

And im still not sure if i fully understand the instructions on PS2nfo.

I have a console modded with the infinity chip and some online backup games (like Top Spin), and i understand the DNA ID's thing, just not the patching part. Too many stuffs to download, worse still since im a noob with programs and decrypters and the like.
So, what is the shortest route to playing my games online? In laymen's terms, please. Thanks alot for your help.

With Windip. If you have a difficult time with this stuff, then I suggest you familiarize yourself more with the programs involved and and the PC in general. This stuff isn't that hard, it's just a lot of reading and trial and error. I got to where I am now by responding to/reading posts in the PS2 forums daily for 5 months. There's no substitute for research.

Try this tutorial, the rest is up to you:

Patching DNA ID's with Windip: With Windip (recommended): http://forums.psxforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=117528

I just went through that tutorial, and it's helpful. (Hopefully i understand like i think i do).

Just a few things to clear up though.
So, to play the backup i have online, i only have to burn it after patching the game with WinDIP? No isobuster or dvd decrypters needed, right?
And also, do i have to turn off my modchip?

Thanks again.

If you use Windip you don't need to use IsoBuster, correct. Windip opens the image file and patches the DNA ID's for you. I read through the tutorial to verify that, I don't play PS2 games online. You can use DVD Decrypter to burn the patched iso, but you can also use Nero or Alcohol 120%, whatever you're comfortable with. If you patch the DNA's with Windip, there's no need to disable your modchip. You only need to disable the chip if you go online with originals.
