DW400A (SL writer only)

DW800A (SL writer only)

DW822A (DL and SL)

I only have one DVD writer with a 8MB buffer (a Plextor) .. and to be honest, I've never really noticed any difference ... Mt BenQ DW1640 is my favorite so far ...

I usually buy from newegg. Occasionally I buy from zipzoomfly. But, I'm anxious to get this burner. Catfreak, did you pre-order from one of those retailers that you provided above? Anybody have any suggestions on pre-order from someone vs. waiting for newegg. (I don't think newegg ever does the pre-order stuff)

I thought there would be a difference (other than lightscribe) between the 1650 and 1655. It's my understanding that there was quite a difference between the 1620 and 1625 (again, other than lightscribe).

Not sure why the dw1650 specs got a repeat post. If it had to do with my question. I was trying to ask if anyone knows if there is a difference between the dw1650 and 1655 in regards to quality of the burns not difference in specs.

I discovered in the cdfreaks forum that there very well may be a difference. Mostly in the firmware. There are some dw1655 users who have used 1650 firmware to convert from 1655 to 1650. Of course this disables the lightscribe function, but they don't seem to care because they beleive the 1650 firmware renders a better quality burn. Further, it seems that in the past BenQ has done better with frequent firmware upgrades on standard drives (vs. lightscribe drives)

Look for daily specials at www.newegg.com for burner prices around $40 + shipping. Pioneer, NEC, Liteon all have be3en on sale recently in Black, Beige, or Silver bezel colors. They will be qiuck to get the 1650 when it comes to US. They sell the lightscribe 1655 now.
