Catfreak,(Senior Member): Without any doubt, DVD+R is far superior to DVD-R ... if you wanna know why, click on the link in my sig and read up

9mmruger1,(AfterDawn Addict): I agree, DVD+R booktyped to DVD-ROM is the most playable in all players.

Saugmon,(AfterDawn Addict): agree with the rest of the AD studs: Definitely plus format,booktyped to dvd-rom!

alkohol,(AfterDawn Addict): I agree, I couldn't have said it any better.

ScubaBud,(Senior Member): Jan Willem goes on to explain why the newer format DVD+R is the MOST compatible, now that it is available, whether on older or newer DVD Players.

To sum up?

The definition of insanity is saying the same thing over and over but expecting a different result? so sorry ashj but the cab is full! Catfreak, 9mmruger1, Saugmon, alkohol and myself are all in it, "together"!

@scubabud,

add ME to the list of DVD+R supporters too~ :) i too am a DVD+R person that booktypes to dvd-rom~ :P i also have that snazzy "afterdawn addict" after my name too~

dvd-rom, no matter HOW you obtain it, IS the most compatible format...

but, one point for the DVD-R team though, i have realized that on certain Toshiba stand alones (the one my wife's family uses and my parent's too) are VERY picky about my YUDEN000T02/MCC003/MCC004s booktyped to dvd-rom, they (the Toshiba players) will NOT play them; but play Taiyo Yuden DVD-R format: TYG01/TYG02/TYG03 without a hitch~ :) very RARE case i admit, but backups i make for my IMMEDIATE family, i use DVD-R format~

Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

My son's Toshiba likes the dark dyes like Ritek & Ricohjpn the most and has no problem with DVD-Rom booktyped +R discs ... It is really picky with the Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and MIT Sony discs, (you know, the light metallic color) be they +R or -R

hey Doc, like my sig of the week?

If it works for you, stick with it, and I'll stick with what gives me the best results.

There are lots of us who have burned thousands of discs in each format mines are mostly -R and I've had no issues with them DVD or Ps2 wise.

ashj, i think that most of us here have nothing against you in terms of WHAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU~ :) i too have thousands of DVD-R burns, i started using DVD-R format when i first began my dvd backups and thousands later, i still use them~ :)

i think what everyone is trying to clarify on is that dvd-rom IS THE MOST COMPATIBLE FORMAT, from a scientific point of view, not so much that DVD-R work BETTER for YOUR PS2 and standalones, nobody is arguing that point...

nobody can argue with you as to what works best for YOU, we're just stating FACTS and personal preferences here...jokes aside, we mess with each other with a bit of humor now and then..it's all in good fun~ :)

may you have continued success with the DVD-R format, i know i haven't stopped yet...as i stated in my reply above, i ONLY USE DVD-R for my IMMEDIATE family, their Toshiba players LOVES TY DVD-R discs, MUCH MORE than any DVD+R disc booktyped to dvd-rom ~:)

Yes,

your all a good bunch of guys, and I have fun posting here.

Honest heh.

My last 400+ burns of booktyped DVD+R (DVD-ROM) compared to DVD-R in modern players (and bear in mind I burn alot for friends/family etc) is;

DVD-R failed to play .......... Nil (Verbat im ,TY,maxell)

DVD+R (booktyped DVD-ROM) ............ 3 (Verbatim,TY,Maxell)

each disc is scanned in Nero for quality (over 95) prior to dipatch.

Booktyping DVD+R makes the player read it as a DVD-ROM as we all know, even though it isn't a true DVD-ROM.

With older players I'd agree, DVD+R booktyped (some older player won't read it any other way), but I've had on the rare occassion those disc's not playing on modern players (Sony).

So in my exp' I go for DVD-R for compatibilty and remain unconvinced about DVD+R (booktype)being best.

happy burning guys ^ ^

When all is said and done, if your burner does not booktype you are better off burning DVD-R for next best compatability.
