Okay, before the change to XP drivers, there wasn't much difference in read speed between my rom and rw drive. I had assumed the same. I just tried reading from the rw drive, WOW, substantial difference.
However, BIG PROBLEM........after reading, the program ejected the original, and asked to insert blank media. I put in the blank media, and as soon as I closed the drive, it started writing before I was able to change the booktype in DVDInfoPro. In fact, DVDInfoPro did not recognize the RW drive at all. UGHHHHHHH! Tears hair out! Yikes, good thing it wasn't a DL disc! What did I do wrong? Is this normal? Or do I have to kidnap my son and get him to again try and permanently set the LG-4163B to write dvd-rom? Getting him over here is as painful as going to the dentist!
As a note, one redeeming feature was the write AGAIN, and this time I was able to change the booktype before pressing the write button. (DvdInfoPro did recognize the drive this time)
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Gremlins, now the above post shows up. LOL
I do notice when reading from the rom drive, I get a blue screen at the beginning of the preview, saying something to the effect that "this will not play due to parental controls" Weird, Disney dvds?

The genius that I am (BIG HAHA) figured out how to booktype the media on drives that don't automatically set for + media. This is for those using the RW drive for both reading and writing and CloneDvd2.
First put + media in burner drive. Open up DvdInfoPro (this is what I use for my Lg 4163). Set booktype to dvd-rom. Take out media, but DO NOT close the DvdInfoPro window. Proceed with Anydvd/CloneDvd2 programs. The media will write to dvd-rom when CloneDvd2 starts writing.
Experts, please advise if there is an easier way.

Hey Mackdl,
I too am an avid DvdXCopy fan. I have been using version 4.0.4.1.5RF + AnyDVD. The combo works great. However, when I saw that Clonedvd2 average read and burn times were supposed to be about 20-30 minutes, I figured I had to try it. Were ever able to get your read times any faster? I am having the same problems with extremely long read times; when trying to back up the Lion King, the couter said "1841 minutes remaining" as it was reading the files from the disk. That's over 30 hours! I tried everything suggested in this thread with no luck.
Please help...anybody?

Now to Lion King:
One of my computers is fairly old (6 years), but it does have some fairly decent components for its age. I put in Lion King Disc 1. It contains INTERACTUAL PLAYER, hopefully you didn't install. Uninstall if you did.
With all titles checked, except Title 35 Angle 2, and Title 36 Angles 1 and 2, my read time was 28 minutes on this computer. Of course you could remove anything you don't want. This ended up at 72% quality. For animated Disney, this will be fine. Non-animated, I would go for closer to 100%.
To your question, did I ever get my newer computer to read faster? Not yet, I have read that my LG drives have a rip lock on them. For the Lion King, read time was around 20 minutes for same titles as above. I'm sure it could be faster. I am looking at some firmware from the "Dangerous Brothers" to unlock. However, this is over my head and something I will have to get my son to do for me. It's been almost 6 months and I'm still waiting!

That is correct AnyDVD and DVD43 conflict and AnyDVD will not work properly if they are both installed on your computer. Completely remove DVD43 from your system.

Don't have dvd43; used to and uninstalled it because it couldn't handle the newer encryption; then I caught a nasty virus and had to wipe my hard drive so I doubt there is any trace of DVD43 left.
Ran ccleaner and defrag. Guess I'll try ALL those other programs (quite a list!)and see if my read times are any faster. Other outrageous read times were 211 minutes for Failure to Launch, 686 minutes for Ella Enchanted. Funny thing is that the first title I used Clonedvd2 on, Ultraviolet, completed in about 45 minutes from read to write. Then the crazy read times started and got progressively worse until the Lion King. I was able to backup all these with my old standby of dvdxcopy rf and AnyDVD. All took about an hour to an hour and a half.
Thanks for the advice and the list of the other programs.

Make sure you read that entire thread.
There are many people here that can help you in the virus and spyware forums on AfterDawn. Much more expertise than I have. A clean, mean, machine is what you want, so whether spyware, malware, is your problem or not, it is beneficial to run these programs.

On an older computer, 45 mins from start to finish would not be unreasonable. Do you reboot after you are finished before you start backing up a different title? Are you disconnecting from the internet, and disabling your antivirus? (make sure you enable before you go back on the internet)
For the read times to get progressively worse, it sounds to me like your DMA settings have gone to PIO mode. That would be MY first direction. I buy tons of previously viewed dvds, games and always clean before playing or backing up. Fingerprints, smudges, PIZZA(LOL), can cause read errors and cause your drive to go into PIO mode.

I would love it if I could get 45 minutes with Clonedvd2. This is what I am used to with DVDXCopy/Anydvd combination.
Yes, my pc is older, about 6 years old; Pentium III, 640mb ram, two hard drives; one 20 gb and one 80 gb hard drive. I run my OS and MS Office on the 20 and my other proggies on the 80. The 20 gb is about 40% free space and the 80 is about 75% free space.
My dvd drives were and are in DMA mode.
No, I usually do not disconnet from the internet or disable my antivirus (I run McAfee). Guess I'll try that next.
No, I usually do not reboot after backing up different titles; never had to do that before with Xcopy. Seems somewhat cumbersome, but I suppose it couldn't hurt.
Yes, I try to clean the dvd before making a backup. Of course since most are brand new, this usually only consists of blowing off some stray dust particles.
Thanks for the additional tips and I'll let you know what if I get and quicker read times.

BTW, I run XP Home with Service Pack 2 as my OS and periodically run Adware SE and have just started (thanks to this thread) to run cClean. Mcafee antivirus runs a full system scan each week.
