Okay. I'm still not making any progress. I got some RAM, and put it in so now I've got 512mb instead of 256. Still failing. I burned a cd just fine with a different burner in the same computer. Is there a way just to take out the dvd drive and un install every single thing to do with it, then start over. I don't think there are many other options. Once again I'll post my log...

Both of the above are connected as the burner does not like the Blank Media. What is the blank media you are using

I'm using verbatim media. The burner always took verbatim before and never had a problem. Ever since I tried to use an HP lightscribe disc it hates all my media now. I'll try one at 4x later today and we'll see how it goes.

Thanks.

birdwig,
BenQ is usually a very good burner. Is the burner still in warranty? Blow some compressed air gently into the burner to see if cleaning might help.

Yeah, it seemed like a good burner before all this happened.

I've noticed one thing that differs from the data in the log.

When I burn a disc in DVD Shrink(which uses Nero anyway) or in Nero, when I choose 'write speed' i only have 4 options: Maximum, 2.4, 2.0, 1,0.

How/why is it starting the burning at 16x when I choose maximum. I know the drive is much more capable than 2.4x, so where are the other speeds?

I'm pretty sure the drive should still be under warranty. Got it within last 6 months.

birdwig ,
Try this and I think it should work. Got to Nero Drive speed and insert the blank media and let Nero see what the sped is and that should set it for you. Make sure you activate 4X and 6X and also 8X if you burner goes that fast

I'm not sure I know how to use Nero drive tool.

The first Read Speed is greyed out so I can't do anything with it.

The next Read Speed has "maximum, 8x, 6x, 4x" listed. Then next to it says "current: 3x".

Then under that is Spin Down Time and '4min' is selected and next to is says "current: 4m".

I can go into options and add some if I want. Is that all that is needed to be done? There is nothing about write speed that I can find.

Isn't this fun?

Go to the store and buy a 5 pack of laquer front dvd's, (or solid color front DVD's). I had the same problem last week. I removed the burner from my machine and put it in both my other workstations. Had the same problem. Removed Nero 7 and reinstalled. Same problem. Removed Nero 7 and installed Nero 6.6. Same problem. Upgraded the firmware on the drive. Same problem. A

s a last ditch effort, went to the store and bought solid front DVD's as opposed to my mirror fronts.

Guess what?

Not a single problem. I was about to throw out the burner which hasn't given me a problem in 2 1/2 years because of a first time use of mirrors. Some drives don't like mirror dvd's or vice versa.

Give it a whirl

Well. None of my discs are mirrored on the top. All of them are solid colors, just dull. I really wish I knew what I could do to fix this. I'll try a couple more discs.

What type of disc are you using? Good stuff like Verbatim or Sony? As you may have already experienced the cheap stuff is not worth the end result.

ShadowSi,
Try slowing the burn down to 4X to see if that helps
