Don't have time to write guys but steimy, I would suggest that you NOT buy until you can afford what you want. You didn't like what you heard then its telling what to do (or not do). Don't buy something out of impatience then regret it....sounds preachy on my part, I know, but so many people do and I've done it myself...Gerry

No worries, i am not in any great rush. Especially since my 1 month old TV is not working right now and already needs service :(
I will just wait and save, if the theater system doesn't sound any better than what i have then i will not be impressed and not buy it. The one i have now will blow you out of a room at half volume.
I think i will just get a receiver rather than a whole system as i love the speakers i have now. The picture upgrade and the right type of hook ups is my first step, the surround sound is my last.

Great going Steimy! I'm back home (well, at work actually and will be able to write more now) will write later when I get out of work....but WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOUR TV?? That really sucks, it's brand new! Is it something major and what are you doing to get if fixed. Damn, I would be throwing temper tantrums like a two year old! Talk to you later!

yes, i can say i was quite upset, and that is putting it mildly and without throwing out a complete sentence of obsenities.
Not sure what is wrong, my roommate had the day off and said she was sitting there watching it and it just went black.
I tested it when i got home. I tried to turn it on and the normal sound of it turning on is made, sounds like it is trying. But no picture and no sound. The lamp light comes on, then all 3 in the front start blinking, then it seems to go into some sort of standby mode.
They are coming to look at it Saturday, but a week of waiting is driving me nuts.
But this is just really making me mad because i just got it on
3-4-06 so it is just past the 30 day return limit. And nothing should be wrong with it in that short span of time anyway. Kind of glad now i spent the $399 for the 4yrs service plan. I will update after this weekend.

steimy.......
It's not April yet. 30 days has not passed, unless you meant to type 2-4-06. Even then, I'd still take it back. I did that once, to Lowe's. The salesman started to tell me where to take it for service, and I stopped him. I told him that there had only been one payment made, and I was not goona pay over $300 for a REPAIRED tv! I told him to get the manager. He did. I told the manager the same thing. The manager told the salesman to go get me a new tv. He understood where I was coming from. That was about 8 yrs. ago and we still use it in the bedroom.
I'd try it if I were you. If the manager acts like he won't do it, let him know you're gonna post it all over the internet, and tell everyone you know. It's obvious it was a bad tv, and they should do more than just repair it, no older than it is.
Good luck!

I will check my bill at home again on the dates, i may have posted it wrong and should have said 2-4-06 which is most likely the correct date. But there is no way in just over 30 days i should have to be repairing a $2,500 TV set. If it is not fixed and fixed for free then Best Buy is going to have one pissed off, very loud customer to deal with during there busy time in the high end TV section i can assure you.

As I said........... I wouldn't let them FIX it! For $2500 they had damn well better give me a new set! $2500 for a repaired tv? No Way! Not with me anyway. But it's your money. You do what you are comfortable with.
The 30 day return policy is for reasons such as: you get the tv home, and it doesn't fit in the space, or the picture looks bad in the home setting, or it just looks so much worse than it did in the store and I don't like it!
A tv with actual electronic problems, is something different, entirely. To me anyway. I'm just funny like that!
Good luck!

@steimy...I've got to go along with JVC on this BIG TIME!! Don't let them service it, insist on a new one. If they give you a hard time, and they probably will, then go for the Oscars guy complete with an audience ... they'll give you what you want rather than be publically embarrassed and possibly lose sales. If memory serves, there is a thread in here somewhere from a guy who bought a defective Yamaha at best buy and who wanted an exchange, not a service job...he describes how he went about getting what he wanted. I'll see if I can find it!

I am actually considering these three units, JVC 702, Yammi 5860, and Pio 1015. Was curious if anyone here has any more info on them.
I have a 5 month old HD56g886 JVC with direct tv hr10-250 and ota for local hi def. 14 year old Philips pro logic receiver with polk 5.1 rm series speakers, also 14 years old but still in good shape.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Stan
