made in Taiwan
ProDiscF02
ProDiscS02
RitekF1
made in Japan
MXLRG04 (excellent discs, maybe the best -R 16x available)

I'd take the Ritek-f01 and the Mxl-rg04's. I'd skip the prodiscs.
I'd purchase the spindles that say made in Japan for those maxell 16x speed media. Those hitachi produced Mxl-rg04 should be excellent, just like the Mxl-rg02 and Mxl-rg03 media.
Maxell using prodisc? That is scary. Only japanese spindles/jewel packs for me for maxell media.

i hate they stop getting the 8x..office depot & staples still carry the 8x but the the price is ridiculous..$40 for a 50pack..i dont get the dvd+r maxell because my sony burners dont let me burn them at 4x...just 1x,2x & 2.4x..so i stick with dvd-r..i was going to get some sony discs but believe it or not i have sony disc that code out as SOny08D1 that are acting crazy when i go to back 1 up..go figure..so that has pushed me away from sony..i just looked at the media Id quality guide...prodisc is ok media ..its 2nd class media just like Ritek so i think i'll give those 16x a try.

( Me and Compusa not big buddies !) Or Possibly if OfficeDepot has them & they pricematch as well ? Still would'nt be as good as deal as what you've gotten but if I can get Quality media for around .30 to.35 cents each I can live with that! I got the lightscribe discs at bestbuy :)
I got 2 packs! woot!
Yeah, the +R sony's (the ones MIJ) are the TY's. Those are some good stuff. I'd never get the -R (regardless if they're TY or not) only because of the booktyping options.

Hello, if anyone has a micro center anywhere near them, they have Verbatim 16x DVD +R's there for $14.99 for a 50 pack spindle and 100 slimline cases for $11.99. That is an unadvertised sale on the verbs. I just happened to stop in there looking for something else and saw the verbs at that price :) picked me up a couple :) /unjust

Staples
Sony 50-Pack DVD+R/-R -$14.94 mord appreciate the information about walgreens ! I shop their quite often although I've only bought one Blank DVD there so far ! But why would you want to spend wallgreens:
sony 25 pack dvd-/+r $9.99 - $9.99 +tax for 25 DVD+R'S or DVD-R'S which boils down to .40 + cents ea. if you include the tax ? when for about $ 5.00 more you can get twice as many at staples -See above . $14.99 divided by 50 equals .30cents + tax of course . Also if you like Compusa they have the Sony's 100Ct . 8X DVD+R & DVD-R on sale for $29.99 which works out to roughly the same price !Not fussing or anything just thoought that everyone else was CheaP !!! er' FRUGAL like me LOL! I understand that Walgreens maybe closer to your location Or perhaps like me you have no LOcal Staples stores ! But if you have a Compusa You could take their sale to OFFICEDEPOT or WALLYWORLD = (WALMARTS) and as long as they have the same product they will Pricematch it ! Give you the same price ! You could just go to compusa too ! if you like but Compusa & I have issues regarding Customer service so I shop elsewhere ! But feel free to shop where & when you like ( Ask to see the return policY & beware of rebates ! Again thanks for the update & happy Burning mord my friend!

OK, Just to keep things straight.
I bought a 50 packs of Sony DVD+R 8x (Made in Japan) and a 50 pack of Sony DVD-R 16x (Made in Taiwan) at Staples today. I dont want to open them until I know which are the TY's. Does anyone have the media codes to these? I couldnt find them on the older media guides. Im leaning toward the -R's, as they are more compatible with home players, but I heard that the +R's are TY's. Any guidance out there? Thanks!

@jcpm: I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with thelox714 on this one. First off, the DVD+Rs from Japan SHOULD code out as YUDENT, not TYG, TYGs are DVD-Rs. I assume the Sony TYs use the same MID format as "name brand" Taiyo Yudens. That's just splitting hairs, though. Either way, if they're from Japan, they ARE Taiyo Yuden, in DVD+ or -R flavor. As for the 16x's from Taiwan, I bought some DVD+Rs from Taiwan (Sony), and I'm pretty happy with the results I'm getting from them. The quality is 95%+ every time, so far, and they are playing great on my standalones. The scans aren't as pretty as TY's though, so I'd say that if you've got the option, get more of the MIJ Sonys, since TYs are definitely one of the best medias you can get. I'd also recommend +R, not -R, if you can booktype, as you'll find that to be your best bet for compatibility. So, if only to get some +Rs, I'd take the 16x back, but even if you kept them, you'd probably find them to be very reliable, good quality media. I wouldn't recommend burning them at 16x, though. I tried burning at 8x and 16x, and while both produced working discs, the 8x looked a little better on a scan, and the time it took for each burn was almost the same.
