@saugmon ~ Thank you for the recommendation, I will see if our Walmart(s) have that player.

The reason I asked about uninstalling Roxio even though creaky gave me the link - when I searched using Google, one site said to use that only after you've uninstalled it... (??)

I continue to search using Google and on this site as time permits for the answer - I appreciate everyones' help! Thank you!

yeah, it should show up as 'Roxio', you uninstall it then use the zapper. If Roxio isn't showing up as something to delete i'd go straight or the zapper

Main PC ~ Intel C2Q Q6600 (G0 Stepping)/Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3/2GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500/Zalman CNPS9700/Antec 900/Corsair HX 620W
Network ~ DD-WRT ~ 2node WDS-WPA2/AES ~ Buffalo WHR-G54S. 3node WPA2/AES ~ WRT54GS v6 (inc. WEP BSSID), WRT54G v2, WRT54G2 v1. *** Forum Rules ***

Check here to see if you have any of these Roxio programs on your system or possibly something similar due to slight changes in older version names. http://www.roxio.com/en/products/index.jhtml Then as Creaky pointed out, if nothing shows, go with the zapper.

I got a Philips at Wally World myself. It's a bit more expensive, but it's multi format and will play just about anything round and flat. I've held back putting pepperoni in it. ;)

Thank you creaky and brobear -- Using the link you posted brobear and checking it against my "add or remove programs", I do not see any of those listed.

But, when I search "all files and folders" for "roxio", this is what the search results show:

Roxio Shared C:\Program Files\Common Files File Folder

CDDBControlRoxio.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32 516KB Application Extension

CDDBUIRoxio.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32 744KB Application Extension

RoxioInstall C:\WINDOWS\Temp 19KB Text Document
..

When I open the Roxio Shared file folder above, this is inside:

BurnPlugin
Dragon
SharedCOM
Sidewinder

..

Okay - I understand I should go straight for the zapper. I believe I'll wait for my husband on this (insert chicken sound here) and we'll get that done this evening.

@brobear ~ I actually had the Phillips in my cart ($55) and may just go with that purchase as they were out of the less expensive unit, thank you for your recommendation on it.

I'm off to Walmart ~

A friend of mine, both net and real world, recommended the Philips. We're both happy with ours and the multi format can be handy if you want to use RW, CDs, DivX, MP3, VCD, SVCD and others. Philips even supports their drives and has firmware updates for some. The model I have is the DVP642. I've got a more expensive Samsung that rests a lot and I gave my son an RCA I had. I'm not saying one plays better than the other, just the Philips does more and was the least expensive. Which goes to show, you don't always have to spend big bugs on equipment.

I'm good to go! I went to Walmart, bought the Phillips and so far it's played everything I've put in it. I am one happy camper!!

I've been struggling with this for quite some time prior to posting. Thank you everyone for all your help - it was so kind of all of you to post and help me with this.

The Phillips I bought is the same model as your brobear - it even says on the box, "You have it, we play it"

This weekend we'll get rid of Roxio ~

Again - thank you everyone. *Ü*

I just wanted to touch base and post one more time on this thread to say that this new Philips DVD player has played everything I've put in it so far.

We couldn't be happier that our copies are playing after all the problems we had trying to play them in the Toshiba.

Thank you again for all your help. You're all so kind to help out us newbies, I never could have learned to do all this without this forum.
