kivory,

We're getting a little off topic but NO I haven't got my mobo yet. Called them last friday and they said it was due to be shipped today although I have yet to recieve a tracking no. I think the whole problem was the defective cpu but it is still good to double check the mobo. Good thing my RMA wasn't for a defective asus heart. I'd be long dead. Got the tracking no for my cpu. It should be here wednesday. Have a good one buddy.

@mort81

yah, sorry to take this thread off-topic, but good to hear your cpu is already on the way and your mobo SHOULD be shipped shortly~ :) sometimes dealing with the RMA depts. at certain companies takes FOREVER! if this was true w/ organ transplants, i would see a lot more deaths at the hospital~

have a good one buddy, didn't mean to take this off-topic, but i did REPLY earlier to both the originator of the thread and ihoe about their scans and what COULD be done about them to make them more "accurate" :)

docTY~

yes I know my drive is a rebadged BenQ 1620 I think. If I cross flash it with the BenQ firmware is there any chance that it will HURT my drive? I don't really want to buy a new one since this one is doing a fine job for me. But I am game to cross flashing it if the scans will be more acruate, and it won't interfer with burning. Maybe it will even be better than it is now!!! what do you, more experienced members think? should I or shouldn't I?

IHoe,

If it were me I would but the choice is yours. If it is burning good and you're happy with it then I probably wouldn't just to make it more compatable with nero scandisc. You know the old saying "You can't fix it if it ain't broke".

You don't want any of those f/w's you linked to. You would want one of these http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1905 I'm not sure what is involved in crossflashing that drive. I would go here http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=92 and try to get some more info from folks who have done so.

@ihoe

ok, so you know for sure your philips drive is a benq 1620? based on your research? ok...if that's the case AND you are comfortable with the whole "cross-flashing" process...then i would suggest the newest one, which is B7W9 (for the retail, NOT the bulk firmware) :)

your link, btw, is not working...here is the link directly to the benq 1620 firmwares~ :)

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1905

im sure the boys at cdfreaks have ALL the knowledge/info you need in regards to cross-flashing a branded drive to a benq...sorry, i can't help ya out too much there because i don't own a drive (Sony/Philips or others) that is a benq drive internally~ :(

so, no experience from me in regards to benqs...sorry. :P

but this SHOULD be the firmware you should download for the cross-flashing....

http://support.benq.com/files/storage/Firmware/DVDRW/DW1620/B7W9.zip

hope that helps a little bit, as for the benq firmware "hurting" ur drive...definitely NOT assuming you do the cross-flash PROPERLY! i've cross-flashed my Pioneer drive with Buffalo (japanese firmware) at least a dozen times back and forth with Pioneer official firmware, as i was testing out various medias with different firmwares to see which one would serve me the best...my pioneer dvr-109 is STILL kicking and burning beautifully~ :) currently using 8.58 Buffalo firmware for the booktyping feature, as pioneer drives DO NOT SUPPORT BOOKTYPING using official pioneer firmware~ just FYI~ hehehe :)

i believe i read awhile ago that one of the guys @cdfreaks has made a "benq-flasher" which should do the trick with your drive...here it is:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=149980

good luck

docTY~

I'm following the easy way out.......
Quote:
if it aint broke........
as I'm not that brave to put my drive in harms way ... just in case! After over 1000 successful burns .... I don't want to fool around with that cause it's still going strong and I'm having all this fun with this drive. I guess I'll have to suffer with the scans that I get! Untill I need another drive I'll just have to suffer! thank you everyone for all the info, though. I hope I didn't put anyone out. thank you all!

@ihoe

it's all good in my book~ :) my reply to ur post lead me to read up a lil bit on the whole Benq-flasher thing...so, i learned something new in the process~

stick with what ya got if it's been going well for ya...if it ain't broke, HOW can u fix it right? hehehe, it can be "altered" but that is at your own discretion~ :) gotta weigh the benefits along with the POSSIBLE consequences~
