nephilim: lol it's cool man.
anubis: stand alone HD-DVD players are really expensive just like stand alone Blu-ray so It's not going to get popular over night but if you could have one for free....hmmm...like say ps3 for instance....then they have the advantage.
See ps3 will be in 100 million homes(possibly like ps2)eventually and this gives Blu-ray a great chance plus sony pictures will be releasing a bunch of movies too.No one thought the psp movies would be successful but they were wrong.
I should correct you pioneer has already released a Blu-ray stand alone player for over $1000 retail and with no content yet lol.

psp movie sales are by far falling from what they used to be. i for one would have never baught one because then i can only watch it on psp. if i wanted to watch it with friends and familty i'd have to buy it again, so i just get the dvd. game sales are also falling but not much at all. its only cuz the psp doesnt have many games worth the price. i hope the psp price will fall soon, because mine was stolen and i want another.

I have never even played one.So I havn't purchased any umd movies. It was never expected to do much because of the reason you mentioned but it did better than expected(that's not to say it's a best seller). As far as sales go it's cause everyone is pirating the movies(and i would be too).

The thing is guys even if bluray fails it will stick around for ps3 games. So it wont just disappear it will stay being used but only for games not movies, and a HD-DVD external may be released for ps3. If Bluray win then microsoft have said that they would release and external bluray player so.
And Neph you would have been thinking of the fact that all the big machines and stuff used by the industry can be used with little modification to produce HD-DVD movies, saving money.

Who the hell thinks umd movie format took off (google umd format failed and you get tons of hits). Every studio but Sony has ceased production, it fail and it failed misearable. Wal-mart no longer offers shelve space for the Format. UMD has been filed with other sony failures Betamax, minidisc, need I go on. Also you can get like 200 gig hdd for 80 bucks why would you want to buy a 25 gig write only disk when you can have a HDD to do whatever. Really not to sound rude here but some of the bull I have read in thread makes me sick and make me NOT want to get a Ps3.

the 50 gig rw disks will be out by fall-spring, so no worries there. its good fo storing large amounts as space and convieniency. would you wanna go to the store to pick up your new game on hdd? i didnt think so. talk about a heavy game library. its perfect for what its being used for, large and easily transportable storage.

i think ff9 was one of the best. i liked it more than 8, and it ties 7. ff10 had no replay value really..maybe one replay.

"Who the hell thinks umd movie format took off (google umd format failed and you get tons of hits)."
Oh you googled it lol.I bet I could google "google failed" or "my balls failed" and get a ton of hits.No ones saying it's the next blu-ray or hd-dvd, but for a format that only play's on one system which happens to be a handheld with a tiny screen ,I'd say it did pretty well.

A lot of my friends still dont have HD ready TV's, making all that is currently available in terms of "better media" unrealistic to spend the extra cash on. I see no reason for the average consumer to spend extra cash on a system and games that are developed only for those that have the technology to take advantage of the features offered. I miss the days where SNES was the "must have" and everybosdy was equal regardless of how high-tech their tv was....

Thats hard to tell at this moment. We (America) has yet to see a game that has been released on blue-ray, and i would not be surprised the least bit if the price of a game on this media is at least $60-70, cause its a new format and a lot of ppl are excited to see what this new media has 2 offer. I for one will never pay this much for a game, but i know many ppl that will.

Avtually i wont. Between my ps2, snes, and psp, im good for now. Video games in general dont have the same appeal as they once did, and until a "killer app" is released for ps3 (Final Fantasy 13) i will be good with all the stuff ive got:)
