These 4x are RITEK RO2 (001) . Package is the same as the 8x and is dated 2004, so they are not that old. Speed is 2.4 and 4x.

I too just recieved some ritek 16x coded as RITEKF1, they won't work in my laptop's nec6500. And they only burn at 2x in my TDK840. They are however recognized as 16x in my Sony DRU-810a.
I don't think I'll be buying anymore of these at any cost.

puterman - hmmm interesting, i just ordered a pioneer dvr-111d because i've been getting wierd issues with media and this drive, maybe it's not the drive.

As a longtime Ritek fan prior to being enlightened by DocTy, the Ritek G-04 and G-05 (4X and 8X respectively) were the best Ritek had to offer, however the latest batches seem to leave something back at the manufacturing plant, namely quality and burning ease. Office Depot now uses RitekF-1 and Ricoh JPN as their disks of choice, however if you can find the 8X, grab them before Saugmon and his soon to be tadpole sniff them out. You'll recognize him immediately by the large stash of Ritek G-04 and G-05 under his arms and a slightly insane smile as he gaurds his stash.

hi :)
having tried 16x verb's at the moment, i'm not over the moon with the results. so wont be using the Ritek 16x for awhile. (depends how fast you want to burn i suppose).
will stick with my trusted Ritek R03's
 gif by ireland

But I sometimes wonder what would happen if a Couple of afterdawners showed up at a store during a big media sale on say Fuji-MIJ'S Or Sony Mij's That were Taiyo Yuden Coded at the same time? Things that make you Go Hmmmm ! They would do the "Civilized thing " and share the bounty of the shelf! Yeah ! it could happen ! LOL! Unless It's Maxell Mij's or Ritek's & Saugmon gets there first Ha! ha! ha! LOL!!! No he's a generous person too he'd leave some on the shelf! Good luck ,Happy burning & keep up the good works Doc! Hey guys,quit talking about me, LOL
MIJ media is getting very difficult to find-locally for me. Full hub inkjet printable maxells is all. All Yuden000-T02 and regular Maxell-002-00 is extinct in my realm.
I've got quite enough Ritek-P16 to do me for a while,but do have a stash of yuden000-T02 for emergency.
I don't have time to burn much until after the 4th of july. The peak of the fishing season has hit,and I've been tearing them up.Even started a fishing thread in the safety valve just for sh*ts and giggles.Check it out if you get bored.
I am half tempted to check out those staple's maxells that are on sale.I'm trying to resist that urge, LOL.

those Maxell's at Staples should be MIT and code out as Ritek (same as the OD 16x?). All the staples in my area have the 16x MIT ones. All the other stores in my area that carry Maxell also, except for the OD that still has the 8x MIJ. I'm sorry to say that I probably will not be revealing where it is, trying to retain whatever supplies are left there. :)
(thinking)...won't be worrying about saugmon coming to my area...don't know about kivory, though...not sure on the location... ;)

LOL, no need to worry bout me, i completely wiped out my local Office Depot last week and this week, Staples, for the last of the MIJ Maxell 8x dvd+r/dvd-r :) all the Maxell 16x media locally for me has been MIT, while good for some, i'll pass...they had like 40 spindles of 50-packs here at my local Staples, all MIT now since i grabbed the last MIJ 8x media hidden away way in the back on a separate shelf/display~ i was seriously wandering around the store for a good 15 min. to see if they had placed the Maxells elsewhere in the store...hahaha

Sounds like we have the same shopping profiles. Looking around for the cached stacks of MIJ dvds. Best Buy doesn't know what to think of me standing there checking the 8x Sonys for MIJ id for those wonderful TY T02s. LOL

My advice is to stay clear of RitekG05's. They burn fine but then start to degrade from then on. I have burnt 50 Maxell G05's and they all burnt fine. Now a number of them have read errors even though they are in pristine condition.
They are about as good as Princo.
