Hi ssinger
For both brands Yikes!!!
Used both myself and was not a happy camper. Reburned what I could. For long term I would not use them.
Decades storage now - well both Verbatim and Taiyo boost a 100 year archvial life - but hey I don't think I'll be around then to prove them wrong.
Where are you located? US, UK etc

@ireland
That's a heck of a find!

I would. Mine on these brands became unreadable. Reripping was no fun either.
This is the site I use and others members here:

I've used them for about 2 years - no problems. The Taiyo's are genuine.

I am interested only in writing with a proper marker and not printing or lebeling the DVD... For such use, is there a difference in quality between

Taiyo Yuden White Inkjet Hub Printable (Value Line) 8X DVD-R Media 100 Pack in Tape Wrap

Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R Media Silver Thermal Lacquer in Cake Box Spindle (Premium Line)

Is there a diff between Value line and Premium Line? Between Hub Printable vs Silver Thermal Lacquer? The price difference is not that much, so I will grab the one that is better. But if it is just a marketing thing, then I will get the lower priced one.

I use the silver thermal and inkjet ones (I use an Epson printer to print labels on the inkjet). No difference in quality.

Since you won't be printing to them the silver thermal is fine.

I normal use the premium line but other members here use the value line. No problems with either.

Takes about a week to receive them so in the mean time you can pick some Verbatim (another great brand made by MCC) or look for made in Japan 8x Sony or Fuji. These are usually made by Taiyo Yuden.

Thanks binkie7. I will get those discs and reburn many of my stuff.

Another question: I am getting a lot of read errors ( Cyclic redundancy Check errors ) on my source dics. If I clean the disc, sometimes I can get a file or two and sometimes just retrying works.

Can you give me some tips on maximizing the files I get out of these DVD data discs? Are there any other tools other than 'dragging and dropping' files to hard drive that can do better at retrieving the files?

Oh no the dreaded CRC error - that one can be tough.
The best tool I've tried for these is isobuster. Try that.

Also some drives are better at ripping these than others. So I would try your other drive also.
