Thanks also for the info eatsushi. I just finished updating my XA2 thru the internet a few minutes ago. The update process seemed to take less time compared to the A1 update to 2.1. I'll try some discs later.

The Toshiba-Canada site has official HD-DVD player (all of them) firmware (CD) image files available for download here...

Follow all instructions to a "T" for desired results!
----Later-----
I just used the HD-A20 firware update from the site and it worked great. It took longer to complete than I expected (the fifth step takes forever) but afterward the CD playback, DVD playback, and HDMI connectivity issues I was having where gone.

The version 2.5 FW update is up and it adds 1080p/24fps output.

I tried to upgrade to HD-A2 firmware 2.5 version from the old 2.2 version, but it says right away after clicking the OK button (after the agreement page) that the software finished updating the firmware, and it will now end the update, but it just stayed there and nothing is happening. The firmware version is still 2.2. Anyone seen this, and what shall I do to upgrade to 2.5 version?

From avsforums:
Quote: Download of this update has a new component, after VERUP and 37 updates are downloaded, and steps 1-5 are completed, the XA2 shuts off as normal. When powered on, a new Update notice immediately appears on screen telling you an update will be installed and the unit will power off when complete, you must then select OK to proceed, and XA2 has more internet download activity started immediately lasting about 30 seconds, then the unit powers off. When powered on the next time, it restarts normally.

Thank you. ActiveISO worked. I was able to search the internet and found that out.

Burned the 2.5 iso image to a CD-R as always with no problems (using Nero's "burn-image" feature). Installed on the A20 store display in about 10-15 min. Everything is working fine. The "Picture" menu has two new options "RGB" and "upto 1080p/24hz." Both features work fine after a quick test with the Superman Returns HD DVD.

That is about it. Update to 2.5 then you should be set to go (for now).
