I'd like to mention, NEC burners can burn xbox360games fine. IMO any burner can burn the isos properly, IF you can set the booktype to dvd-rom.
remember, the majority out there know nothing about burners, burning and media, let alone booktypes. so they start yelling OMG!11 my NEC can't burn 360games!

and don't forget to change the bookype of your burner beacuse the ps3 does not recognize DLs,change the booktype or bitsetting whatever you wanna call it{same thing} to "-ROM" otherwise you get a disk in not clean error

I have the Pioneer 111D, just opened up DVDinfoPRO, clicked on the "+RW" icon and up pops 'Pioneer drives do not support bitsetting'...
Will the 111D change this automatically?
Thanks

*sighs*
use WinRAR to unrar the files. it will result in an iso file that you can burn.

the following is part of the read me file from the 3.3 firmware. now if you look at the 3.1 update it says bitsettting to dvd-rom no longer required. im trying now the hot swap method, and then patching the .ss bin into it and gonna burn with clone cd. if all works i will add a step by step of what i did.
(v3.3) Dual Read Speed mode (Quite/Slow Read mode for backups activated via any Xbox 360/Xbox 1 Original game disk.)
(v3.2) Improved Media speed patch, forced full speed on all media types!
(v3.1) Added Booktype overwrite patch (bitsetting to Dvdrom no longer required)
(v3.1) Added Media speed patch (drive treats backup disc speed rating same as original)
(v3.1) Fixed DVD Movie backup/Xbox 1 backup read bug.
(v3.0) Stealth Media implemeted into firmware. Backups now appear exactly as original disk regardless of which disk check command used by Xbox 360
(v3.0) Enable0800 mode supports extraction of raw PFI (Physical Format Information) and raw DMI (Disk Manufacturing Information)
(v3.0) Support for loading of extracted PFI and DMI from disk
(v3.0) Non-Stealth Backups automatically enhanced with embeded PFI for Xbox 360 and Xbox 1
(v3.0) Included new Video.iso for Xbox 360 and Xbox 1 backups, now the same as originals
(v3.0) Security placeholders/bad sectors for 360 backups are outside both valid psn ranges so they cannot be read/checked by 360 host
(v2.0) Extraction part of firmware enabled with Enable0800 DVD. ISO included.
(v2.0) In Enable0800 mode, allows drive to function natively under Windows without any hardware conversion/adaptors
(v1.0) Boots all Xtreme Xbox 360 backups
(v1.0) Boots all Xtreme Xbox 1 backups
(v1.0) Boots all Xbox 360 originals
(v1.0) Boots all Xbox 1 originals on Xbox 360

I've downloaded something but I'm not sure how I verify if a release is already ss patched? It doesn't state anything in the NFO. The format of the downloaded once rar'd is a single large "image.000" file and the 1kb 'DVD' file.
Is there a way to tell using SS Merger? I don't want to waste a disk to only find out that the ss isn't already included.

First you'll need to register to REMOVED(pm for link), its a private tracker which has a bunch of xbox 360 games, the only thing is, you have to keep a ratio of at least 0.7 or else you will be removed.
Xbox 360 games run on DUAL LAYER dvd + r. Note the PLUS not MINUS DVD-R DL, those will NOT work. Only DVD+R DL, and only use Verbatim DVD+R DL, they are expensive, but insure your backup will run flawlessly, but you can buy some memorex DVD+R DL that are cheaper, that will NOT work past the menu, but at least you'll know its the medias fault not your game burning procedure, then go buy some verbatims, you don't want to test your first backup with expensive disks.
That being said... You'll need a DVD DUAL LAYER burner, specifically a Pioneer 111D or a LG H10N burner, if you have any NEC brands or SONY brands, those will not work, Lite-On's are known to work as well in some cases. If you are going to go to a computer shop, ask for a good Pioneer or LG burner that supports DVD-ROM BITSETTING (often reffered to as BOOKTYPE). DVD-ROM bitsetting burns dvd's to look like dvd-roms, and if your burner doesn' tsupport this feature, you will not be able to make a sucessfull backup.
Now you're gonna need some programs. The only program to burn the images you download is CloneCD, ABSOLUTLY NOTHING ELSE. Grab a copy of it somewhere, and DVDinfo Pro.
Now DVDinfo PRO lets you set your burners booktype to DVD-ROM i know most pioneer and LG burners do dvd-rom automatically, but you never know. Load up dvdinfo pro at the top you'll see an icon in the toolbar that says "+rw" click on that and change the DVD+R DL to dvd-rom.
Now you're all set to burn your image. When you download you'll get a bunch of .rar, inside is usually 2 files, an image file and a .dvd file. The image file will be large and will either be .000, .img, .iso, or other various image file extensions. The .dvd file is a small one.
Open CloneCD and select burn image, then select the .DVD file, NOT the image file (making sure you extracted them both to the same folder). Burn at 2.4x and ENJOY!
