There are different lasers in the same version PS2 once in a while like when they were refibuished. A Play Station 2 formated disk is a orginal PS2 game that is not copied. If u didnt put in a orginal disk if its scratched up try one thats not as scratched if it plays the laser need to be tweaked a little. And when u said a chipped laser do u mean its broken? Or modchip is installed?

no i put in a ps1 game and it asked for the format disc and i don't know if the laser was chipped (modchipped) becuase at the front of the tray were the little ps2 sign is it keeps coming off?! and i can only get it to read audio cd's and ps1 cd's not dvds or ps2 games?

It can read ps1 cd but not ps1 game. wtf do u mean your confusing me. If theres a modchipm its is very small and is on the botom of the mother board and there should be alot of wires. Can u repeat ypour self... but more clearly this time and give more detail?

ok sorry mate.. her goes! on the mother board there is a small chip and there are loads of wires!! the ps2 right now plays ps1 games, audio cd's and thats it! it won tplay ps2 games and dvd's. thats about it!

yea then the previous owner had a modchip installed but i donno if it was successfully installed or a bad install? Ask your friend about it if he never got burned games to work and/or the install look realy messy chances are if doesnt work and might be interfering the other stuff take out that power wire and ground wire and see how it goes. Power and Ground wire should be a thicker wire than the rest. A pict of the chip/install would help

umm...this might sound stupid but how can i get a pic c of it on afterdawn? and shall i try putn the laser of my other working ps2 into this one and see what happens and this laser into the other ps2? but if i switch them back again im scared that then both ps2 wont work ?!

Just upload it on imageshack.us and post a link. I dont think u should try u never know if someone mobo might have something wrong that could mess up your laser.

If u have a solder iron (dont pull it out with your hands) remove the VCC3 wire (the modchip power wire) & gGND with (ground) on the modchip not mobo, and see if the PS2 would work. Use your other V 7 laser and put it in the broken one after u remove the modchip power wire & gnd. and make sure that wire doesnt touch anything else. I think the modchip is the cause that it doesnt read games.

ok listen im sooo sory but i dont have a soldering iron and i dont know which one is the ground wire and the power wire?! do you have a pic or tutoral of the wire'(s) i need to remove? and the url for that chip u gave me was infact the chip in the mother board. oh and by the way it plays audio cd's and ps1 games now. i tried changing the mother board ont the other ps2 and it wouldn play the ps2 games, it said please insert ps2 format disc so i think it is the chip.

Hmmm..yea, maybe swich the good laser to the broken PS2 and leave it there for now because your old laser might not have the proper adjustment on the pot. And then remove 2 wires (my net is so freaking slow for some reason today)... picts dont load really good. But the two wires u should remove is the one that is marked VCC3 & GND on the modchip next to the pins. U will need to un solder it out or maybe cut them close to the modchip.

Well first u should fix your laser issues and i think the modchip isnt working properly. Well connecting the ground isnt going to help as much anyway. if u wanna get the modchip working i sugess getting a solder iron and remove all the wires thats on the modchip, not the PS2 mobo and arrange the wires and tape them down try not to let the wires cross one another as much and dont let the wire go over the modchip. U might need to move the chip closer. And solder the wires back to the modchoip. dont think about removing the wires on the PS2 mobo because its hard to solder in. And the Ground and power wire should be short

yeah the power wire is short but the ground is farrr and the end of the grond wire is soldered to another peice of wire which is then soldered onto the mobo but that has now come off. shall i just cut the two wires then from then chip? cuz i dont have a solder now but i will get one

The pict i post are some other place closer that u can ground the chip. Swiching the laser wouldnt do any harm to the other PS2. But ne careful not to rip the ribbon under the laser, though

if u dont want to swich the laser. Get a soldering iron and take off the wires on the modchip and tape the ends so they wont touch anything and start changing the pots until u get that laser to play PS2 games. Btw do u use AIM, or Yahoo or something
