Yes that is correct.

I tried it that way, and it didn't work at all.
The Playstation isn't chipped is it?
Surely this doesn't work.....someone must have done it well before now.

I tested this, I can verify that it works using PS1 backups. Can't verify the PS2 discs yet as I have not yet tested, I do not like the way the disc immediately stops spinning. Don't think it's good for the PS2. But it's good way for me to play my PS1 backups, but I'll continue to use my Swap Magic for my PS2 backups.
-Mike
EDIT : I can confirm that this does NOT work with PS2 backups.

hmm
so it works with psx backups
but not ps2dvd backups
we need to find a new trick
where the motor stops spinning
if you can do that in browser
im sure it will work
well anyways
for those who did get this to work
why not post a video?

Hey, I just got something like this to work on my mate's unmodded PS2, but it involves some steps to initially be done on a modded PS2.
It's similar to the tutorial described here:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/291684
but I think you don't even need ARMAX.
It's very similar, but some steps were changed. Interested?

No worries.....I'd never heard of it before...
The setup is so much easier with a modded PS2....
and then using it on a modded PS2 is pretty basic.
But anyway, back on topic....I don't think the method described works. I tried about 10 times and nothing happened.

Quote: you HAVE to use a real PS1 whether you're playing a burned PS1 OR PS2 game. it works fine. you cant seem to switch out from an original PS2 disc.
i did that and it works fine 4 me, thx dude! 1st u used a real ps2 dvd, but then i read his post afterwards, and tried it with a ps1 game instead.....and it works, thx

Well, I just got a backup of RoadRash3D. I tried this method, using real PS1 "Crash Team Racing". I clicked the black cd, and it brought me to the Red, Yellow, turquise and blue logo screen, but stopped at that. I'll give it another go, maybe it's the game. I'll get more backups and if this does work with any, I'll let you know which ones, and which ones it hasn't.
Well, RoadRash3d doesn't work with either Gran Turismo 2, or Crash Team Racing CDs.

For those that got this to work, can you please post:-
1. The version console you have
2. The original PS1 disc you used
3. The backup PS2 disc you used (and if it was a striaght copy or a rebuild)
4. and is the disc still spinnning when you manually eject the tray, with the Playstation continuing to make that "Voom, Voom, Voom" sound.
Maybe it has something to do with the TOC size of the game....dunno...

This probaly doesn't work with PS2 DVDs. The PS2 starts making a messed up engine like sound while swapping and once the games have been swapt the disc no longer spins.

There is a fundamental flaw in this. Basically if mainly affects PAL user though (and I'm a PAL user), becuase most *good* games are available in NTSC anyway. PSone games ONLY work. I have a similar method for this using the PS2 slimline (was removed from this site?), but it requires some tools.
Here it is:
Basically with this method you can only boot games from the same region as your PS2. i.e NTSC (USA ps2) can only play NTSC(USA) PSone games.
But you can't boot USA games on the PAL system and vice verca. But I found a way around this.

I have not tested this myself. But it's worth a try.
Play PS2 CDR or DVD games on PS2 console without modchip.
1. You need a ps2 console
2. A USB harddrive (large preferred)
3. USB extreme orginal
Install this tool usbextreme wininstall on pc format the usb harddrive.
Install your backup games on harddrive with this tool
Put USB harddrive on PS2 console.
Use the orginal cd install for USB harddrive to play games on harddrive on your PS2
console.
Install all the games you want to play and choose the harddrive you want to install on
on PC.
Unplug the usb harddrive and plugin the PS2 console.
Backup games on ps2 console without modchip.
I have not tested this myself, but it looks easy to do.
I can email the usbextreme wininstall for those who want it. Drop me a line at ericcarr1@yahoo.com.

@sinners
Ever heard of NTSC2PAL YFiX?
I use it all the time on my PS2 games that are of NTSC region. Fixes the colour and the screen. PM me if you want it.

Yes, I have actually. But thats not the point I was trying to get across. Its just when attempting to boot the copied NSTC game, the PSone Bios screen doesn't load, whereas the for PAL it does, because my system is PAL.
But like I said eailer, I *HAVE* found a way around this.
The way I see it that the PSone game has some sort of code that triggers the PSone BIOS screen. Without the proper region, it just stays black. However, if that BIOS screen was to already been triggered...
Anyway, is the PSone BIOS screen (you when you boot up a PSone game and there's the old PSone Logo that says: "Sony Computer Entertainment...") called a BIOS screen, 'cause thats what I've been calling. I don't have another name for it.

I've tried this using:
Dancing Stage Fever (PSOne) to boot Guitar Freaks, Tony Hawk's 4 and Um Jammer Lammy for PSOne and Guitar Hero 2 Demo for PS2, and
Viewtiful Joe (PS2) to boot Guitar Hero 2 Demo (also PS2)
and neither method worked, so I'm either doing something wrong, or this doesn't work at all.
Any suggestions?

if you want to play backups and you don't want to mess up your playstaion 2 just go out and spend the £15 for swap magic and either buy the flip top for you can just get those little sticky things that hold down all the buttons the release when you open the lid.. sorted.. LOL...
