I own the Creative ZEN Vision:M and my brother owns the Zune. So far, IMO, Creative ZEN is better than the Zune.

Pros for the Zune [Creative ZEN Vision:M Cons]
-Screen is larger than the iPod screen and can watch widescreen movies.[Has the same screen size as the 5G iPod video]

-WiFi features like seeing other people(who owns Zune and in the 30 ft range) what they're listening to, share music by Zune to Zune. [No WiFi features]

-FM Radio has a feature called Radio Data System(RDS), what it does it gets the station ID and info from air(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Data_System).[Doesn't have this feature]

Cons for the Zune [Creative ZEN Vision:M Pros]:
-To sync or transfer music, you'll have to use the Zune software only.[Can be sync with Windows Media Player, Real Player, MusicMatch, etc. or use Windows Explorer.]

-Can't be used as a external storage.[Can be use as a external storage]

-No custom equalizer (Possible in next firmware upgrade?) [Has custom EQ]

-If you have music service like Yahoo! Music Unlimited or Napster, you're out of luck. Zune only supports music from the Zune Marketplace.[Welcomes Yahoo! Music Unlimited, Napster, etc. iTunes music NOT supported on Creative ZEN and Zune.]

-No FM Radio recording.(possible in next firmware upgrade?) [Has FM Radio recording]

What features the Zune and Creative ZEN Vision:M have in common?
-Custom wallpaper.
-Music sounds good.
-Has photo and video support.(both players support different or other video formats)
-Easy to navigate.

anyone can add any features if I miss some.

I am generally happy with the Zune. The screen is beautiful. Controls are simple. The software isnt too bad. The only thing I would change if I could is the battery life. I wish it lasted longer....of course. But, i am getting around 5 hours of continuous play on the mp3 player. Video drains it faster. All in all, it is a good player.

I converted my Borat movie to WMA but when i sync it into my zune it doesn't show up in it. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

It could be that your converted movie doesent fall within the video parameters that are set by the zune software... Just an idea.

It only allows a certain resolution...which i cannot remember at the moment.

I thought the zune software will convert it for you even the resolution, I done full dvd movies with no problems,if you have the files in your computer try and play it and see if it plays, you might have a bad file. just my thoughts.

@lions54, I would say your file is no doubt corupted. With Borat not being actually released to DVD you probably have a downloaded file that has been burned to disc which does not mean it's true DVD format. I have backed up two movies to my ZUNE with no trouble at all aside from the lengthy time it has taken for the Cucusoft software to convert the DVD file to WMV file.:P Now on another note, I feel the ZUNE has been down played and made out to be mild competition when the ZUNE is obviously on a advanced upgradeable software platform and design, yet to be aquired by I-POD or The ZEN. As many have written the ZUNE has a few minor querks that are likely to be improved with the next few firmware upgrades while other obvious external features like the 3 inch screen forces it's competitors to redesign their MP3 players. I will also emphasize that I have been to as many as 8 separate major retailers in my NY/NJ area who have all sold out of the ZUNE? Yeah, It's not HOT? Considering all ZUNE has to offer it is my opinion that ZUNE is the most advnaced MP3 player since the I-POD.:p

I have both iPod and Zune. My girlfriend like iPod, but I think Zune is also great. Zune's screen, wifi and fm radio is better than iPod's.

Zune is iPod killer?

Be careful with the conversion - if you encoded to WMA (as you mentioned) - this is an audio format, and not video (WMV) and as such would only encode the audio track from the movie

There is a very simple registry change to allow Zune to be used as an external hard-disk. I have been using it for weeks now and it does not impact the general usage of the device

Hi I am new to this forum thing, please forgive me if i'm doing it wrong.

Does anyone know how to get a free VOB file converter or how to get the free software for transferring dvd to zune?
I have a zune and I have DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, and its always in a VOB file for DVD Shrink.
I also have digital media converter that I just bought to convert just about any file, just not the VOB files.
can anyone help me?

hi everyone....

i recently bought a zune and i couldnt be happier with it. i love the custom wallpapers and the ability to play videos and all that good stuff. in my opinion its better and easier to transfer media to it than the ipod. when you first install the software just make sure you put the setting the way you want BEFORE you connect the zune that way its easier and less confusing to sync the different media to it. the process and programs i use to put movies and videos on the zune is as follows...

1. i use CloneDVD mobile and AnyDVD
(http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonedvd-mobile.html)

to convert my dvds to divx(AVI) files. depending on the dvd i think its pretty quick. just dont forget to use AnyDVD with CloneDVD mobile or you'll get an error. after i have the AVI i use...

2. imtoo zune video converter
(http://www.imtoo.com/zune-video-converter.html)

imtoo will convert the AVI into a format that will play on the zune.the trial only encodes upto 5 minutes but theres ways around that. just use the links i posted and you should be fine.

after imtoo is done converting the video the zune software should detect it ( if the videos are in a folder that zune searchs thru) and then i just drag and drop it into the sync list and send it through.

yeah i know its kind of a long process but it works for me. i dont know how long it all takes ( i'm doing this all on my superman returns edition alienware laptop and i do a few videos at a time.)

but all in all im very happy with my zune. i just wish it had a bigger harddrive and some nice cases. ive got all kinds of videos on it:

the batman season 1
the fisrt 11 episodes of heroes
wrestlemania 1
superman returns
the all american squirt off
(i had some music videos on it but i took the off to make room for my other stuff)

tons of pics:

britney spears "ah-hem" photos( you know which ones i'm talking about ;)

suicide girls
wwe divas

and a TON of music

so yeah i love my zune

Do you have by chance Nero 6.6 or 7.0? If yes, you can convert your .vob files to the h.264 format (or Nero's MPEG-4 format, I don't remember which) to play on Zune. Just use the Recode feature and convert it over.

If you don't have Nero, I am not aware of any "free" programs out there to convert .vob files.

Congratulations! The Zune is in my opinion much more user-friendly than the iPod Nano or Movie version (both of which I previously owned). And your comment of first setting your Zune before sync is good to know. My first sync sent ALL my music over to my Zune!!!! Manual sync'n is the way to go.

Also, here is another link for those looking for another set of instructions for converting movies to Zune:
