we'll i tried ALL of that--
Uninstalled DVD Decrypter IMGBurn Shrink and DVDFab
Ran CCleaner---Defraged my Computer
Restarted It, Re'installed my programs, an it even says i have 94% of my C: Drive Freed up but when i started Shrink again it started off fast for like the 3% but now im at 64 percent encoding w/ about an hour left and it's already been going for close to two hours :(
any more ideas or program suggestions?? at this rate it's averaging me about 6-8 hours to backup a DVD....

I Have been there with same problem! Two major adjustments that I never needed in the past, but have improved speed back to normal range. While using Shrink 3.2 to copy DVD, pause program, right click at bottom of screen next to system tray and select 'Task Manager'. Find Shrink 3.2 and right click on it. Select 'Set Priority' and change from 'Normal' to 'Above Normal'. Exit Task Manager and continue Shrink process.
If Shrink 3.2 is not successful in copying DVD:
Download 'Fix VTS' and 'Ripit4me'. Run Ripit4me first and allow automatic process to use 'Fix VTS' and Shrink. You need double drive space for this process and it does take a lot of time so only use it if Shrink 3.2 fails. Also, you may have trouble using a different hard drive than the one these programs are installed on. As you probably know, you have to setup a temp folder. I have not found a movie I can't backup via these two methods(second method takes me 1 hour- but it works). PS My OS is WinXP... good luck!!

have you just started using the external??
because your not gonna transfer that fast using usb and your not gonna like the results if you go from using sata to usb (much slower)
if you want to speed this up move the files to your internal hd then burn the movie then move them back to your external(for storage)

nedflan you pinpointed it...i transfered one of my backups of my external HD then onto my desktop that took about 150 minutes...then i ran it through shrink onto a folder in my C Drive instead of my external and it ONLY TOOK 28 MINUTES....thanks everybody so much, i am very happy i can once again make a back up rather painlessly!!
