lol, my bad. Good call, I had automatically put both stories together by accident. That makes sense now that he's still trying to fix it. Hopefully all works out for you guys. I do recommend just using component cables if hdmi continues to prove a problem and you do discover 100% that there's no defective hardware at all.
Playing in SD due to wanting HDMI when component works just fine is not a good choice w/ the ps3. HD is what the system is all about. It's amazing the difference in quality between the SD image and HD image.
I've been researching other articles on the side and I really can't find any more tips than what we've all suggested already. Hope you guys get your stuff workin.

I have been reading things all over the place in forums and i just hae one simple question....
Can anyone tell me if the PS3 can display in 1080i?
i have read places that Sony said that it can not and there will not be a fix for it.
But i have been reading that others are seeing in 1080i. I want to know before i go out and spend $600. I want to avoid spending more $$$ on a new TV

When I first set up my PS3 when I connected my HDMI cable to my projector it told me I was displaying in 1080i, there is an option in the display settings menu to display 1080i too! The problem is that some games are 720p and people are haveing problems with just those games! I dosen't mean you will tho, and if you play around with the sttings you can fix it! It is just a hassel!

You should be perfectly fine. My Sony HDTV has 480p, 720p and 1080i and I can change the settings back and forth from 1080i to 720p or 720p to 1080i easily. The choice is yours.

If your TV is 1080i, then it should also be 720p, so you should be ok!
When you get it I would set your Display setting to 720p!

To the guy with the Magnavox. I got the same tv and have the same problem. That said, a lot of TV's with DVI are having this problem. My understanding is it has something to do with the cable and with the HDCP handshake. For right now I am leaving it on component. Picture is pretty good at 1080i. Was a pain to hook it up and get the dolby/DTS 5.1 sound and 1080i picture. But worth it. Gonna try out out a blu ray movie this weekend, and start loading my music files onto the hard drive. This was the final piece I need for my home theater.
Now for my question. You can load other operating systems into the play station right? and you can use a keyboard, right. So should I be able to load up windows XP and play Call of Duty on the playstation using a keyboard?

You can't load XP! You can load Linux tho! I am not sure if call of duty will work with Linux, it might! Yes if you have a usb keyboard you can use it with your PS3!

OK, I have been doing some work on this DVI issue and it appears to me that if you can get a HDMI to DVI single-link DVI-D cable that is HDCP compliant it should work and resolve the DVI issue with the playstation 3 . blue jeans cable on the internet appears to carry these cables at very reasonable prices. I can't guarantee this but I am going to try it. See their website at bluejeanscable.com/store/dvi/index.htm for a discussion of the various types of DVI cables. I really do beleive that this is not a tv issue but a cabling issue.

Hi, I have the same tv, and I'm also having the same issue. I've only been using hdmi to dvi cables, and i've tried several. None of them work all of them produce no signal input. I'm fairly dissapointed with this tv.

Did you use a DVI/HDMI cable straight through or did you use any sort of conversion adapters?

I've tried several straight through cables, no adaptors.

Hello, Just wanted everyone to know I got a hdmi and dvi monster wire all in one, with one end being dvi the other hdmi.
I gave up on trying to make that work. It just dont. Maybe it's the tv or maybe the ps3 just does not like that set up.
I went with component and have a great hd picture.
No need to stress out about it when I have component. :)

I didnt see the Optical cable one at CC when I got mine only the $59.99 one . They were out of a bunch of stuff and may have them now, so id say check.
I'm working on getting a sound system for my tv and ill have to pay 19.99 for the Optical cable because I got the $59.99 one .
The monster component wire is great man. It's going to be night and day when you change to component.
Good luck

A word of warning thought. this guy on the PS3 forums at http://boardsus.playstation.com/ said he used ps2 component wires and it made lines going up and down his picture. A lot of people say it works great. I just didn?t want to risk it after reading that post . $650.00 for a ps3 and I?m going to cut corners on wiring ? nah. After messing with the dvi hdmi wiring thing and stressing out over it I thought id just save my self the stress and start having fun on my new ps3.
If you really want to save money you can get the monster cables for the ps3 NOT NEW BUT used on e bay for less then half of what I paid. I seen the pair I got sell for only 15 bucks + shipping on e bay . Boy did I feel ripped :) I think used or new it really dont matter.
