I've just had a whinge at the guy who sold me the Starview box - last week by the way! - he's trying to convince me that the box will put itself right if it's left on for 24 hours. Anyone else heard that one????????????? Anyway, thanks to Fekker and others - one download and ten quid for a cable at Maplins and I'm back up and running. Cheers Guys! :)

Hi All
I have the starview box and i am having the same problem as everyone else i can't get the channels now.
I have got the files and lead i need to update the software but when i try and run the gtr rom file i get the windows message saying it can not be opened and i need a program to open it.
Can someone help me out here.
Do i need a specific software to run it.

Use windows to find a program to open it(using the web). Cant be that hard because I have just installed it on a brand new laptop with no probs.

hi, went and bought rs232(female to female) cable today downloaded gt loader and bin file for starview update from rapidshare----still cannot download update to box---box is hooked up to pc and i have the correct bin file on the gt loader and com1/2/3/4 will not allow download. any ideas guys---i have to fix 3 of these as the guy i bought it from is in the Dam! shit.how come nothing ever runs as smoothly as it is supposed if anyone could help me out here email me at mtlaw86@yahoo.co.uk it would be much appreciated.thanku folks!

Check the COM PORT, try another, make sure your cable is a null modem cable, not serial.

fuck i bought a serial cable--the guy in maplins asked me--can i ask what ur using the cable for?? told him i was jst gettin it for someone.what a knob.so \the serial cable definately wont work??

The null modem cable can be used to connect 2 pc's together as a simple network, connect to various receivers, LCD TV's to update them. The software is only good for the Starview. I know feck all about consoles.

i have not got the first clue about this side of the technology but you said updating lcd tv's.what does this do? i have a hd lcd tv(currently being fixed-piece of shit! and on the starview point--how do i get pay per view events like boxing and pay per view movies???
and can i scan foreign channels?

If the TV needs new firmware.

You will get PPV events, PPV movies have moved to video on demand so you won't get them.

fekker--- the ricky hatton fight last weekend---i had to uproot and shift 30 miles west to catch the fight! would this event have been on starview? if so is it the live events channel??
