Good to hear things are going well - mine is still good as well :) Many hours of use now.

Sounds like your original ps1 games are possibly scratched/damaged - try copying one to a new CD and see if it behaves then?

If so, then the slimfix is doing its job by the sounds of it and shutting down to ensure the laser isn't working too hard.. at least that's what I think anyway - copying to a good quality CD will prove it for sure.

I tried several games and all of them are in perfect condition. Maybe the laser works somehow differently with black bottom cds and Slimfix acts like there is a problem. Have you tried any original PSX games on your machine ?

Im pretty sure they'd all work fine if I burned them to different cd because all the backup PSX games I have tried work just fine... I don't see why my console would have problem with specific games.

Now i'am no expert but from what I've read and my experiences with this i think the slimfix is a bit over protective when combined with v12 and above as they already must have some form of fix built in. I had a little trouble with mine and certain discs some old originals some new copies probably on bad media. So i took the slim fix out and always try to use ridisc extreme, (although i have not been able to get them lately and got the blue ridisk still ritek dye though) and have had no problems since and the kids batter it from three till bed and its fine. See what works for you...

A plus with the v12 is that you can add a hard drive to the system. Definitely a plus if you have a modchip, since you can run the Toxic OS or HD Loader depending on your chip.

I have no problems with black cds... that's all I can say - strange really.

Hard drive on v12 sounds interesting - any link for more info for a matrix user?

Just search for HD Combo. It's a case replacement that lets you install any IDE hard drive.

Ah, yeah I had read about that.. I'd probably be more interested in a usb drive connected..
Don't know what sort of speed it would load a game though and know nothing about it - on my list of things to look at (one day).
I think I have to install usbextreme(?) on a memory card or something.
Don't wanna do a case mod so a usb option would be best for me probably (is ps2 i/f usb2?).

Any news on the 'black disk' problem..?

I hear that the game compatibility with USB HD pretty much sucks. Also, since PS2 has only USB 1.1 ports, the speed is indeed quite lousy as well... not much (if any) improvement compared to DVD-drive. But it would be quite handy way to store your games and protect your laser. You would need to spend any money to disc ...although HD itself would cost the price of many many DVDs. I might consider getting one of these myself, if they had better compatibility with games.

Here's a compatibility list of games running off the hard drive. Just about everything runs if you include games that can be patched. About 12% or so are incompatible.
