Dude, Iv'e been here for a long time. Got my psp on day one. I've been through three accounts here because mine gets "accidently" erased. That's beside the point. I'm not barking at the mod, I'm just tired of seeing members getting jumped on for the stupidest reasons. I Know the rules. You tell me which one he broke in his third post ( the one he got two weeks for) and I will surrender.

There goes another that needs to learn that life is full of rules whethere you like them or not. I put up with enough crap without having another smart aleck giving me grief for banning the first smart aleck.
As for how I know if someone comes back? I have my ways ;)

Ok, I repoened this one in order to elaborate on some things because I had to rush it earlier.
Weirdname,
We have ip checks but like many of you have commented, they aren't perfect. I've been doing this long enough that I can tell it's a certain individual just by the way they act. An ip check just confirms what I figured anyway. The actual act of coming back doesn't bother me at all. It's the coming back to act a fool that I have a problem with. If they rejoin and act respectful then I'm happy to let them go about their business and I have one less trouble maker to deal with.
I often hear that I'm way too hard and some people have a problem with the fact that I usually skip the temp ban for an immediate permanent ban. Again, I've been at this long enough to spot the ones that will just come right back in order to bitch, whine and cuss me out over it. As a standard I warn them that if they come back before the suspension is up their original account will be permanently banned but they do it anyway and I end up with a post-it on my monitor reminding my self to deactivate the original account when the suspension is up on that account. It's a pain in the butt so instead of going through all that crap I make it easy on myself by booting them out the door right away.
DVDultra is a perfect example of that. I deviated from the norm by giving him a suspension but instead of waiting out the suspension and acting like an adult when he came back, he came back and proved my point. Now I've got a post-it with his nick and a date on my monitor.
I readily admit I can be pretty hard on folks but come on people, all a person has to do is act civil and that by no means is a hard thing to do. Be respectful in the forums and you and I will never have a problem. I've never cruised the forum just looking for someone to ban but by golly when I find someone who can't do something as dead easy as being courteous they get the hammer. A person doesn't have to cruise the forums very much to see I won't tolerate that crap.
Now for superduty. He got the boot because He jumped in on a situation that didn't involve him and was no business of his. He also decided to question my decision in a disrespectful manner in the open forum which is NOT the place to do it. If ANYONE has a problem with something I've done all they have to do is send me a respectful pm and I'll be more than happy to discuss it till they and I can reach an understanding. I've done it many, many times even with folks that sent me pm's calling me every name in the book.
I do this for free folks. Before I was a mod I racked up thousands of posts helping folks in several different forums and really enjoyed it. Nowadays I often have less time for the forums and what time I have is taken up responding to offensive post reports, dealing with complaints, getting second guessed and cussed out by ill mannered children and generally having to be the bad guy all the time. I do this because I love AD and want to do everything I can to ensure it's an enjoyable place for everyone.

anyways regarding the IP thing...say u banned me, which i hope will never happen ;) and i decided to rejoin but this time masked my IP, would u still know it was me rejoining? just wondering really

But in all honesty, the mods here are some of the most understanding people around. Neph is really a nice guy, and often gives second chances or more to those whom he feels are worthwhile, but ill tell you now, disrespecting or questioning his decisions is a sure fire way to get a lightning bolt thrown at your ass! Like Neph said, he had been a aD contributor far before he became a mod, and doesnt get paid to do this gig. If he really wanted to, he could have banned me multiple times in the past due to some of my poor decisions, but since I did what most dont do (show respect) and proved that I learned from my mistakes I was spared.
In conclusion, lay the hell off to any of that feel big for taking shots at members of staff.....im sure you do this since you are missing something important in life, and trust me, you arnt getting anywhere here by acting ike an immature breatfeeding baby.

Wow.... well this thread went off path quick.... went from a stupid yet funny question to multiple bans for people that must be a bit retarted. Notice to the idiots out there... if a cop pulls you over and you spit in his face... guess what happens next. Running your mouths to the moderators... one of the worst things you can do. Hope the guy that started the thread figures out the rules before he comes back and is able to READ some of the guides and other threads that basically hold your hand through the whole modding process. I had to figure it out that way and being that I only had my psp for less than a day and had it fully modded in that amount of time it shouldnt be hard. So hexit what else can you morph to? LoL!

Like I said before our ip check isn't foolproof. I'm not too knowledgable about masked ip's or the technicalities of how out checker works but I imagine it's possible to fool it.

Thanks for the kind words, they mean alot. I don't consider myself to be an unreasonable guy and I've given plenty of folks more chances than anyone here thought they deserved. Remember LexZ anyone? There have been some rare times where I've had some of our regulars get a bit hot at me for giving very unpopular folks another chance.
I'm no angel and I don't expect everyone to like me but if you don't like me it's certainly easier to be cordial and go about your business rather than getting snippy or taking potshots at me.
There've a handful of times where people have got me at the wrong place and the wrong time and were treated to Neph's ugly side. There's a member here, JVC, who probably still thinks I'm a total dick because quite a while ago he sent me a pm concerning a situation that already had me pissed and that pm ended up being the one thing at the wrong time that set me off. I replied in a really, really nasty way that in retrospect was definitely overkill. He's a really good guy, very helpful, very willing to help others and didn't deserve the reply he got.

I appreciate that and for all intents and purposes you're absolutely right. I like to deal with folks squarely and hopefully some folks read I wrote and get a different perspective and better understanding of my point of view. If a few do it was worth the time it took to write. I've cruised forums where the mods seem to be faceless, unbending sentinals and it certainly didn't give me a warm and fuzzy "community" type feeling. I'm here for the community and, for better or worse, a big part of it so I want to be as accessible and flexible as reasonably possible :)

Ummm...in this situation Neph's explanation was fully justified and I am sure a lot of people appreciate his explaining why he did what he did. Just because this is a forum doesnt mean there are no friendships, I for one think of a few people in this thread as buddies and appreciate their views.
What would you rather have, a brute of a mod or somebody reasonable that is willing to explain the situation???

Why dont you and an admin work out a little thing for notes that you can post and it will remind you of whatever such as killing an account or watching someone when their ban is up? Kinda like a datebook. Sounds easier than writing and posting sticky notes all over your monitor.
