Hi to all: I appologize for the delay in thanking you, but, I did not use my e-mail for several weeks. Since there is a virus out there, I can not e-mail any one. The ISP times-out all the time.
Ok, so I've got printed instructions on how to download the IRC software, register a nickname (why also: alternative nickname?),syntax commands, etc. For "KazaA", a friend of mine created a folder, where the downloaded movies got downloaded to. Somewhere in the KazaA software, my friend entered the path of the folder (eg. D:\Kazaa My Share folder)& activated the option "to share" with others. How does it work with IRC?.I have'nt installed software yet. I am not sure I understand the full picture yet, & I might mess up.
If I would click on "File", "Local Info", would this & other questions be explained?.
Thanks again, Regards.

For beginners, it may not be a good idea to jump straight into fileserving and stuff until you get the hang of it. But if you want to do some reasearch and stuff some keywords are XDCC and FSERVE. For the most part, IRC is more for leaching hehe no need to share the Kazaa movies and such... where do you think those movies/games/apps came from? :P

I believe that unlike p2p apps irc networks doesn;t work on the upload download basis. So don't woory about sharing stuff just yet. There is plenty people uploading files to fileservers and allowing the public to download them. I think you have setup your PC as a fileserver in order to allow you to share files. Irc, more me, has been a real pain trying to find files etc. cause there is no clear cut website (like sharereactor) where you can go and view the files that you want and download. It basically is viewing what is on offer and d/ling that if you want to!

In most instances, the nobody WANTS the stuff the average user has to share because its available all over the place and a dozen times faster too! :-)

Thank you all for your replies.
1)I still don't understand why in IRC's registration and set up, on top of choosing a nick name, you also have to choose an alternative nick name. Does anyone know?.
2)Since IRC does't use Shareactor (like KazaA)what is the best method to find movies on the server?
3))Getting back to Praetor's ans. Sept.10/03, where eDonkey2000 , eMule or Overnet were recommended, I'll do some research on those.
Any feed back about: is installation easy & how to operate Praetor's three recommendations?
Regards to all.

1. Just pick a name! It doesnt really matter all that much. The reason you need an alternate nickname is just in case someone has already taken the primary... and in the even that the alternate is taken, you will be told to select yet another name (i.e., each person must have a unique name)
2. There are tons of IRC related sites like ircspy.com or packetnews.com
3. I dont know much about edonkey (only used it for 20 minutes) or emule (only for 5 minutes) but I can certainly give ya a hand with Overnet. :-) PM at will.

Sorry about this. I haven´t been visiting the forums very actively for some time now and I only found this post by accident just now.
I´m kind of in the same situation as you at the moment. Kazaa Lite has been an excelent and easy-to-use tool but the newer versions have some serious issues on my computer, making KL quite un-useable. But Kazaa Lite is something worth checking out.
While waiting for the KL boys to fix their app I´ve been using Imesh, which is basicly a stripped down version of Kazaa. In some cases Imesh has given me very fast downloads on mp3-files. The downside is that it´s packed with spyware, I´ve been getting more and more spam since I started using it.
I´m also using Emule, but that´s mainly for retrieving TV-episodes I´ve forgotten/haven´t had time to watch. Emule, for me at least, is very slow at downloading files. You basicly wait in queue for quite awhile and then it can take several hours before the download-speed has grown to anything noticeable. I know the Emule users of this board will promote the app, but this is my experience with it. Emule is mainly for people who have downloading as a hobby, not for the people who just randomly download some music.
