I decided to try to remove the one HDD that I could not get to go to the DMA Mode, but unfortunately, that did not help either.

I have now bought some Sony DVD+R and Verbatim DVD+R, and the exact same problem comes up with the both of them.

Since the log is showing an error that would normally indicate bad media, despite that fact that I am using some of the best stuff available, is there a possibility that there may be a problem with the drive itself, as in it might be defective? I have now tried 7 types of media, same problem with them all.

I have done everything I can find in the forums, and all of what you guys have suggested at least twice, plus quite a few things I have thought of myself, and nothing has made any improvement at all. It just seems to me like we have eliminated most everything else as a possible cause, except for the drive itself. Is it possible?

Here is my Burn Error log with using the Sony DVD+R 16x media. I have even tried slowing down the recording speed to 8x, 4x, 2.4x and 1x, but that has not helped at all either.

Your firmware appears to need updating. You should give that a try first. Don't worry if you see 840i instead of 840b, they're the same. Once you select your OS, you'll see both i and b listed together.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw...n&lang=en&cc=us
Upgrade the firmware and see if that makes a difference first.

You've tried enough of the good stuff, it doesn't appear to be the DVDs. You don't need to drop below 4X and 8X is the norm for most users nowadays. I split the difference at 6X, though my system is capable of safer higher speeds. I don't care to push my luck for saving just a few minutes off a still lengthy process.

If you have an extra burner you could slip in, it would be about time to slip one in to see if it makes a difference. Make sure it's firmware is up to date, if you have one. Quickest way to eliminate a faulty drive possibility is to swap in a known good one.

You may want to try another burner program to see if that works. Record your output to the hard drive and use ImgBurn, free, to do the burn. If you have a Video_TS, you use ImgBurn in Build mode and select Device (your burner) under output. If you have multiple program failure, the firmware is updated, and we know the media is likely good, and the Nero program isn't corrupted, then it may be time to look to the hardware. Note below what I said about your Nero.

I noticed at the top of your log that two versions of Wnaspi are present when Nero is trying to run. That means the program is seeing 2 possible interfaces to the burner at the same time. Hopefully that's just a remnant from an older version of Nero and you've not been tampering with an ASPI layer. If you have, use ForceASPI 1.8 to check your install and make sure it's done right. It can be done the wrong way. aspichk is the tool to check the ASPI layer. I'm not saying that's the cause, but it looks like the Nero program may be corrupted. Also I noticed internal version 6.3.1.4 and there shouldn't be a version number from Nero 6, even if some people have a working program where it appears. I used Nero's cleaner tool to clean away all remnants of the older program versions from Nero before installing Nero 7. The tool can be found at the Nero site. I was having problems and used both the Nero 6 and Nero 7 cleaner tool just to make sure. You may want to give that a try. When done visit the Program Files folder to make sure the Nero folder is gone and use a registry cleaner before rebooting and doing the install. Be sure to save your serial as you'll need it to activate your new install.

Once you've done the cleaning and done a clean install of Nero try one of the new Verbs or Sonys and give us another log.

Tried to update firmware, but when it goes to update it, it comes up saying that the one I am trying to install is either an older or equivalent version. I believe it's the equivalent according to what it was showing on the screen.

I am going to work on the ASPI layers. I do have two ASPI's installed, but that is a result of one of the fixes I tried, but I guess it's possible that could now be adding to the problem. I had the Nero ASPI already installed and used the Adaptec ASPI program to see if that could fix my problem. It looks like the ForceASPI uses the Adaptec files, it just forces the system to accept them. I'll try that and see how it goes, and if no luck, I'll try the other things too.

I uninstalled Nero again, but this time used the clean-up tools that you recommended. Then I reinstalled Nero, and gave it try and still the same thing.

I know the Nero I installed isn't the most current version, but it's only a coupl months old at best. I was trying to download the newest version from Nero, but their download site is going super slow, and was estimating 8 hours to download a file that I could normally do in 10-15 minutes. I will try the newer Nero version once I can download it, but I don't think thats going to solve the problem. I think I will try another burner if I can, and see where I stand from there. Thanks again for the help.

Here's my newest burn error log......

Out of curiosity, what version of ForceASPI did you use? As I may have mentioned, I've yet to see ASPI cure a problem like this. Programs such as Nero that use an ASPI layer include their own. I've run XP for years without the need to add an ASPI layer. If there is a specific need for it, I can see adding ASPI. The nice thing is if the ASPI is installed properly, it doesn't hurt anything. What did the aspichk tool say?

I installed Nero 7 from the discs and only recently did an update. Note there is only a WnASPI version and the 6.3.1.4 internal version number is absent. I've had other users comment on having the internal version 6.3.1.4 and their system worked fine. I'm left wondering what the version represents. Nero ROM and Express start with the number 7. The version depends on the program used, but the ROM and Express share the same version number. I was burning with Express. Note also at the end I have nothing listed in Existing Drivers: XP doesn't need them. You have the ASPI driver you added. Where did the driver for Win 2K come from? I realize this doesn't help much, but just wanted you to see what a streamlined functioning system looked like. It shouldn't need all those fixes to work properly.

Here's what the beginning and end of my log look like, the body is uneventful so I clipped it.

Let us know how burning with another program works out.

I noticed NeroAPI in your log and it leaves me wondering how you're using Nero. What program are you using and is it together with another program outside the Nero suite?
