got mine on launch day and havehad no problems with it (other than killing a dvd drive myself).
never overheats and had no red lights. Could be cause I swapped the fans over to the talismoon ones as soon as they came out, might make a difference, might not.
A mate of mine had trouble with his box freezing and the occcasional red light, he has since put in the xcm air cooler and has not had a problem since.

got 1st console from hmv last easter for the kids flashed it about 8 weeks ago (hitachi drive) it died about a week ago with the now infamous 3 red lights but it had hardly been used until i flashed it and bought a 50in hd tv to play it on( at one point it went 5 months without even being switched on) so we are probaply only talking around 300 hours of actual playing time. the towell trick that everyone was talking about does work if i leave the towel on while playing but the next day it is back to three red lights again so i think i might try reballing it)

bought a second hand one from from gamestation when the first one died and flashed that one as well(samsung 25 with extreme 5.2b)it is fine for now but when i opened it to flash it i realised the date of production was febuary 2006 so i am half expecting it to die soon aswell but fingers crossed it will be ok


what i have noticed is that backups on cheaper media (philips dl DVD+R at £14 for 10 discs) where rubbish in the first console (hitachi drive) only 3 discs out of ten worked but all ten work fine on the second console (samsung 25 drive) so that was at least some consalation for having to buy a second console(ithink it is down to the slower Backup red speed of extreme 5.2b)

Well so far it seems for every bad 360 unit there is a good unit(generally the replacement unit). With as bad as it seems, no wonder they (M.S.) extended the warranty period to 1 year. With my fuzzy math, it appears that from this little polling, that there is about an 85.71% failure rate among these units. This poll is very small so far, but even with a margin +/-25% a 61.5% failure rate is still way too high. Please, keep putting your input in as the bigger the poll the more accurate its representation becomes.

P.S. GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, Cause it looks like you're going to need it.
