The firmware itself is stealth (for both samsung & hitachi) so the firmware looks original to Microsoft.
Media stealth is only supported by the Samsung drive (ATM) and makes a backup look original to Microsoft.

I highly doubt they can dump firmwares. I think maybe the timing issues between a backup and an original is what got us. Then again, they caught most of the hardcore modders because back in the original xtreme firmware day, no one really cared or knew much about stealth media.

New ixtreme firmware is made but it is worth checking it in 360 toolbox to make sure the key is the same as your original.
if all is good then just put that file onto your floppy or usb stick and flash it with the dos command like you used before
mtkflash w /m /sata ix10.bin, select your drive form the list and it should start flashing. if not then you may need to power off your dvd drive before selecting your drive from the list, wait ten seconds then power it back on & that should be job jobbed :-)

You get the ix10 directory when you unrar the firmware .rar file
You'll find a new command called "make xtreme firmware"
All you do is copy your orig.bin file to this ix10 directory and double click this new command. The rest is clearly explained.
but if they made the console im sure if that thing can play hardcore games they can incorporate an update with a software to dump and check the drives firmware. if we can dump the firmware with our pc's im sure they can do it with their 360 pc's (jkg) they won't be using via chipsets or mtkflash or 10 second trick for sure(/jkg)
Yea, I'm pretty sure Microsoft wouldn't lock themselfs out of their system. I think their using a technique that no one really knows about and is unavoidable.

i think that was the problem...the .rar files. i couldnt actually find the FW download itself. but i found it now. so all is well that ends well. thanks for the help everyone!!
when using ixtreme10, should i use the provided f/w "xtrem10a" or go through the "make firmware procedure". When I do the latter, it says warning because i have ms25 orig, but the new one is for ms28.
