I had the same problem as some people here when I went to flash 1.2b, I used XBM to make a bootable USB pen and then copied over my hacked.bin file which I put the drive key in with Firmware Toolbox. I then used various commands like:
mtkflash w /m /sata hacked.bin
mtkflash w / m hacked.bin etc.
Each time I would get the following:-

Flash Type: "SST(SST39SF020)"
ERR:fail to open input file!

I tried everything I could think of and searched every forum to no avail, it turns I had the hacked.bin in the wrong bloody place, I felt like such a nonce!

I put a copy of hacked.bin in every folder on the USB pen and tried to flash with mtkflash w /m /sata hacked,bin and it finally worked (I'm sure it just needed to be in the same directory as mtkflash.exe).

Just thought I would share my foolishness with everyone on the off chance someone else was doing the same as me!

Do you have to use the Xbox to power the DVD drive or can I simply remove the DVD drive from the Xbox and use the PC's power?
