What I meant about reading the whole website was to go here:

http://www.cask-of-amontillado.com/

From here you can access the various pages, some are informative.

The basics I understand is that the capture card has one mondo chip on it that takes the analog video & audio streams and converts them on the fly into mpeg format, Hardware encoding. Thats about as much as I know.

Re the monitor: the blurriness might have something to do with the refresh rate. Generally, the faster the refresh rate, the sharper the moving pictures. Also, DPI will make a difference too.

My lcd monitor only has one refresh rate, 60 hz. On my crt I run it @ 85.

Hey born2ride,

I've got a thought about your monitor situation. How long is your cable from the computer to the monitor? Could you need a booster? Do they make a booster for video cables?

Yeah, I know how hard it is to find a VHS machine, it's a dying breed. The one I picked up is a JVC S-VHS Hi-Fi model #HRS2920. I picked it up for about $100 at a place called Nebraska Furniture Mart (huge place, had about 20 different dvd players but only 3 VHS machines).

I think it just affects your recordings. I've got mine set at that, but on mine it's the highest quality. If your setup has a higher setting, I'd say go for it. It might ugrade your image on your screen.

I've got the capture set up for highest bitrate possible and it's saved as a mpeg file. This gives me the best pic quality, but then you are still limited by your source. I don't think you'll ever improve the pic quality over the original tape.

I then use Nero Vision Express (I have Nero 6, BTW), select the mpeg file, edit movie if necessary, create chapters, menus etc.) then burn to harddrive. I save my project after each step, I've had problems with Nero locking up on my and saving the project after each step allows me to open a saved project and start where I left off.

Once saved to harddrive, I open Nero Recode to burn to DVD. Here, if necessary, I can reduce the DVD project to fit the disk. You can also use other programs such as DVDShrink.

okay, so you say that you create chapters and such in nero vision, then save it to hard drive. do you save it as an mpeg (which, to my knowledge, is the only format it saves it as), or a disc image file? how can you then resize it with dvd shrink, since i've found it only works with DVD specific files (VOB, etc). please help!

::edit::i think i figured it out! thank you anyway!

Hi briansolo, welcome to AD if no one has welcomed you yet!

If you figured out that I use Nero Vision to make the menus and chapters which I then burn to hard drive as dvd files, YOU'RE CORRECT!

You then can use either Shrink or Recode to reduce in size.

born2ride, wintv2000 does have a full-screen option. you can either hit CTRL+T or the small button in the upper right corner of the window that says "TV Mode."

be careful, once in TV mode, do NOT hit escape unless you want the recording to stop! i made this mistake when i assumed you can get out of full-screen mode the same way you can with WMP. simply right-click anywhere on the screen to return to skin mode.

hope this helps!

and hobbit, thanks for the welcome! what you explained is exactly what i figured out. thank you.

born2ride, thanks for the kind word.

i've had the card for a couple of months now, and it definitely does the trick! i'm still tweaking settings here and there, but it is a great tool. i hope you have many great returns from it!

Remember, you have 2 controllers in your card. Try the other tuner.

Hauppauge has a new driver set dated Jan. 15, 2007, version 2.7. You can get it here if your current set is older.

There's also a Win-TV editor issued June 2007 that sounds interesting also.

Great!!

I had to reinstall my drivers several times before they'd work correctly and be stable.

I found some basic info on the error codes, but not the specific one you are showing.

Did you get a manual with your card? If not(or you can't find it), go the Hauppauge support page and get the manual for the PVR-150. Some good suggestions in the back regarding display settings.

The image file I think is like a place-holder for WinTV's recordings (maybe a self-test to see it it works?).

thanks again.
all that came was the card, a disc and one sheet of paper explaining the install. which blew my mind... i figure it would have some kind of book. i did find a manual for win tv usage. which would of been nice in the begining of all this. but i am slowly becoming good at removing and installing this product and drivers..... so far it working good again. its hit or miss with the driver and mce plus trying to use wintv added more trouble.
when capturing from vhs have you noticed any delay?
it seems when viewing the inputed video there are section across the screen that seem to be wavey. i thinks its an tape or vcr head issue..
