What kind of disk did you burn Slax on to?

I dont know what to tell you then if you did all of this

ModeB Method 1 ? SLAX
The first method you can use to get your Hitachi drive into ModeB is
by using a bootable SLAX Live CD. It is a specially edited Linux
LiveCD that will send custom commands to the Hitachi drive on
bootup.
1. Download the latest SLAX image from Xbox-Scene
2. Burn the .iso image to a blank CD-R using IMGBurn, CloneCD,
Nero, or any other recording software capable of burning .iso
image files.
3. Make sure your computer?s BIOS is set to boot from CD first.
Most are set to this by default.
4. Power off both the Xbox 360 and PC.
5. Make sure both power and video cables are plugged into the
Xbox 360. Also provide a true path to ground between the
Xbox 360 case and PC case by using croc clips, small wire, or
setting them against each other so they are touching.
6. Unplug the small, black SATA cable from the back of the
Hitachi DVD drive and connect your Hitachi drive to your PC
via a SATA cable.
7. Power on the Xbox 360 and PC at the same time. Boot the PC
from the Slax CD and wait until you reach the login prompt.
8. Check for ModeB! (see below)

Ok, I've tried all of that with no luck, if I use the hotswap method, do I flash it the same way as in the tutorial, and also, when I flash the file, will the original firmware be backed up automatically?

Ok, I will try to get it into mode B, I will try the resistor method if all else fails, but just tell me one thing please, once the drive is in Mode B, and it is deected in windows, when I enter the flash24s command, will the .bat file automatically backup the original firmware from my drive, patch the key, and flash the new firmware?
Thanks

Make sure you are using the viaarena drivers (I used 5.40) If the newest drivers won't work, try an older set.

Make sure you use Slax 2.1 as it has support for the 6421.
Turn on the 360 first, then boot the PC with the SLAX cd inserted.
Slax 2.1 will get a 0059DJ into modeB with the via 6421, that I promise you. It's a driver issue I'm sure as I've heard some of the newer drivers won't let you flash 360 drives.

All you really need from a Hitachi drive is the key, as patching the fw is different than Samsung drives. It doesn't completely overwrite the drive's FW.

once in modeB and at the command prompt within windows (cmd.exe) then type flash24s.bat "X" 1234
X being the drive letter.

I had my 360 hooked up to my TV while doing it, but then I thought let me see what happens during the 360's boot up when slax is booting up on the comp, the 360 would sit at the Xbox 360, with the xbox logo for a lot longer because the drive was not connected, I then realised during this same period, slax was trying to detect SATA drives, so I waited for the main 360 boot to get past into the dashboard, then fired up the computer, and booted from the slax disk, and it finally went into mode B.

BTW, firmware has been flashed onto the drive, I will test it and let you know if it works now, give me few minutes.
