im having a similar problem, i got my 360 hooked up via usb to my router, and my pc is also hooked up wo my router via usb. my computer finds my 360 when i activate sharing, but when i do the media test i get, network - wired, ip address confirmed, pc selected failed. ive tried every thing on the website and the tversity but still the 360 wont find the pc any help here?
i'm having an identical problem, and am going CRAZY trying to fix it.
xbox 360 -> router (ethernet)
winxp-sp2 laptop -> router (wireless)
xbox live is working fine. i have the ports open. i have mcafee firewall down. i've tried tversity, zune and wmp11. nada!
i can't figure out why xbox won't recognize the laptop? i'm not great with networking, so a lot of this is above my head anyway. maybe it's a MAC Address issue?
please, please, PLEASE - help would be appreciated!
Alright, like most it took me forever to figure this out but I finally got it. Here was my problem (besides firewalls), I was not waiting long enough for Xbox360 to see my computer!!! Yeah, total MS bull$hit. It says no computers found, and asks if you want to test the connection or go back !BUT! if I let that screen sit there without going to the test screen or back, eventually (like 3 miuntes) it would find it!! No status bars, no nothing, I mean why would anyone just let it sit while it's actually still searching after it says not found. I walked out of the room to get a beer, came back and all of a sudden my computer was there. Weird, hope this helps somebody. . . here were my first steps though. . .
I'm using XP SP2 and WMP11. I have a NetGear 814v2 Router.
Turn off firewalls, I'm using Kaspersky and MS. Even though I had Kaspersky turned to off, I still had to stop the service. (360 did give me a firewall error message when I tried to connect with KPF still running)
Turn Media Sharing on (or off and back on again, I find this resets somethings). You should see the Xbox360 at this point and be able to allow it, if not I would say you probably got firewall issues.
Then go to the Xbox, go to media > computer, etc. . . then make sure you wait after it searches and says failed.
