Awesome! Just curious but did you try the older via driver version 530c, prior to building a new pc?

Yup, i tried the rear port of the rosewill 6421a using 530c driver with the short black sata. There was this one line in textbook's tutorial which sort of contained my answers all along. Something like how some 78s were not compatible with any of the via chipsets and that the ich and nforce chipset are best when you are working with 78s. I was pondering which, ich or nforce, took a gamble with ich and it worked. In fact, i think it was you vectorz who recommended i find a friend with an onboard ich chipset.

Hey guys, im having lots of problems but similar in a lot of ways to yours, specially vectorz i think you might help me here, although in my case the drive is Hitachi 047, i too have a Rosewill RC-212, haven't tried activating only the external ports, but tried a combination of 1 internal, 1 external, and no luck because of the following, i'll list the steps:

BTW, my computer is a Dell Poweredge SC server P4 2.8 Ghz, old POS with of course no sata on board.

1) Power to the drive thru the 360.

2) SATA cable (havent tried the short one, only one of the red ones that come with the Rosewill) connected from the Hitachi to the Rosewill (have tried both external and internal ports)

3) Boot up the PC, turn on the 360 at the same time, Bios on the computer loads, so far so good.

4) This is where i get stuck, the Rosewill bios says "Detecting... Raid none" lists the Hitachi connected to it and then has a message "Press tab to enter bios utility" or something like that, i can't get past that point, since, if i dont hit tab it stays there forever, hitting any other key does nothing, and if i press tab it enters the RAID bios, tells me no drives present to create raid blablabla, i hit esc and y to exit the bios setup, and the machine reboots, and i go back to step 3, on a loop, because i cant get past the bios message crap. Odd thing that has me kind of worried is that sometimes the raid bios says Detecting... stays there for a while, and then it says something like "nothing found, bios not installed, press <g> to continue" but it is completely random.

5) In one of the instances where it says "no bios installed" and i press g to continue, i have SLAX on the PC's drive of course, SLAX starts doing its thing, when reaches the ata/sata section says a lot of things like ata1: port too slow, please be patient, it does this on ata1 and 2 a lot, gives some errors sometimes, but sometimes i get the coveted "Hitachi drive found and mode b activate thanks ken.u" or whatever SLAX says, i wait until Slax's prompt, reboot the computer, taking out the slax cd when the tray pops out, then, frustrating part approaches again, i get the "flip a coin" crap from the VIA RAID Bios again to see if the drive gets detected and i get the press tab to enter utility and i cant do anything else, or i get the "nothing found, bios not installed, press <g> to continue" which is the only way i can continue anyways.

6) This next part gets me confused because im thinking the Hitachis are different in this regard,or i havent disassembled something on the front of the drive but, since you mention, press eject a few times on the hitachi while windows loads, thing is, the eject button on the 047 is the silver plastic button that has a green "arm" attached to it, which goes into a hole in the 360's case which in turn pushes a button on the 360's mobo, and thats what makes the drive eject, i assume, but, since the 360's drive is connected to the PC, how in hell will it receive the eject command from the 360's mobo? im assuming of course the eject command is given thru the sata cable and not the power cable, is this correct?

7) Ok at this point Windows is booting, i cant eject the hitachi's tray, im not sure if the mode b went ok because all the errors given by both the via raid bios and slax (even though slax said mode b activated i dont trust it because of all the prior errors, and finally a) Windows takes a waaaaaaaaay long time to load, and b) As you can tell by now, the mofo hitachi is either not there or says "unknown device" or "local disk(?)". On Device manager, no hitachi drive to be found, so at this point im tempted to grab a hammer and create the first 360 Lego kit, but then i go take some fresh air, do some Ace Ventura tibetan meditation "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalrighty theeeeeeen" and start over, YAY, FUN!!!! pause not!

Please help this poor desperate soul, thanks in advance...
