After a fairly flawless few years of backup, suddenly I am making coasters.

Thanks Guys,
I managed to navigate to the After Dawn Nero page which I had been to before but did not scroll far enough to notice the other versions list. I have reinstalled and updated to 6.6.0.16 and all seems to be running fine. Time will tell. i am still resisting 7 & 8 because I hope to stay with XP for as long as I can thus I won't have to buy upgrades to all my programs.
Yesterday, before I did this I ripped five movies to the HD and burned them manually and one failed just like they were doing when I had Nero start and burn automatically, which, in my pea brain, suggests that it may not be an interface issue. I still wonder about media but there are of course lots of other possibilities that would have to me eliminated one by one. I am just thankful that I have had very few problems to this point.
The beat goes on..
Don

Your choice on which nero. If it works and you're happy, that's what counts.
For associatiing programs with operating systems, Nero 7 was the best for XP and Nero 8 was developed with Vista in mind. Not saying one won't work on another OS, but 8 has support for the newer technology, HD and Blu Ray, which isn't available with XP. Earlier Nero 6 had its issues with XP. Did they ever get DL burning straightened out on 6?

I have a Dual Layer burner but have never tried to burn one. Might be interesting to try but would be a bit of an expensive coaster:=)

If Nero 6 isn't able to burn DL, it should be apparent in the options. Nero 7 has the DVD5 and DVD9 selections. If there is only one option, it should be for DVD5. I don't care for Nero 7 doing DL burns. I always use ImgBurn to do those.

Hi Guys, I am back with my on going failure to burn problem. I still have no way to know what the problem is because all the tech stuff is like some kind of code to me. As stated in previous posts, I ran the Roxio clean and then I uninstalled Nero 6.x.x.xx, used the Nero Clean, and reinstalled the latest (or close to it) version of Nero 6 which is 6.6.0.16.
I decided to leave the auto burn off on the Shrink settings and just burn manually as it works better for my schedule anyway. I still am getting failures about every 10 to 15 burns. Below is the latest log which means nothing to me so please tell me if you can make any sense out of this problem. Or is it just the obvious, like the media. I have used RITEKG05 almost exclusively for about four years. About a year ago I had quite a few failures and was reading on this forum that others were having failure with RITEK so I changed to Taiyo Yuden and had no problems. I think I got a good deal on some RITEKs so I gave them a try again and this is my results so, is it that simple?

There's other possibilities, but I'd change media, especially since it's something like 1 in 10 to 15 you're making coasters of.
I forget the last time I made a coaster that was because of a media problem. I'm trying to remember when Memorex switched to CMC. LOL
