Yup, DVD FAb HD did the trick, as the DVD Fab series of programs has always done when DVD Shrink will not work on those rare DVDs that cannot easily be ripped. I was thrown at first by the HD designation in the titles, and thought it was ONLY for HD dvds. Gone Baby ripped in 20 mins and was under 4464 with all the extra crap removed.
New question: Anyone have a quick spiel on HD dvd-ripping? How much are the dvds themselves, how much do they hold, how much space does a normal HD film take up (movie only) as compared to the 3800-7000 size of a basic regular film, etc. How much are the burners, can you store many reg. films on an HD dvd, how much does an HD DVD hold?
Thanks

What is FixVts? And does ImgBurn work better than Nero, which I've always used? I've always used only DVD Shrink and Nero 5, and have never had a problem (except on the rare occassion one must use DVD Fab Decrypter). For foreign copies I've used DVD Fab to rip, then VOB Blanker, then DVD Shrink.

I suppose that is a matter of personal preference. I prefer ImgBurn hands down.

1) Imgburn seems to be the most stable burning engine out there and much more so tha Nero as of late
2) free from www.imgburn.com
3) Nero is NOT free!

When the newer versions come out, sites give away the older versions, and I have indeed a version I got for free. I bought 100 DVD blanks for like $20 and got Nero free. I've used it for 5 years with DVDs and CDs with nary a problem ever. Thanks!

For you guys that did "We Own the Night" which subtitles did you copy over?
During the Russian speaking parts, the English subtitles aren't "hard coded" into the film like in other movies. The only subtitles that I found to rip off the disk were the English subtitles for the WHOLE movie and the directors cut...???

That is correct. The forced subs are in the regular.

After you open the subs using DVDSubEdit, put a check in the box that says Show only forced subpics.

After playing with that program that you linked, I still am able to see the subtitles of the whole movie after burning to DVD.
How exactly do I remove the regular subtitles but keep the forced ones? The Subtitle file is the same size even after clicking "Show only forced subpics."
Am I supposed to do what this guy did?
Quote: What I did with this movie was make some changes in DVDSubEdit. First I made all subs transparency clear. Then saved all modifications. Then I chose to view only forced subpics. I then made all forced subpicts transparency opaque. Then saved all modifications. Now only the forced subpicts show.

Uncheck Show only forced subpics. This will show all subpicts. Now go to Subpic Color/Transparency and slide the slider all the way to clear. Then go to Edit and Apply last midifactions to all and ckick Do It! This just made all the subpicts invisible. Np put a check in Show only forced subpicts and slide the slider all the way to opaque. Then Do the Apply last modifications to all again. Then go to file and Save all modifications. Now the only subs that are visible are the forced. You shouldn't have to do this if you're watching this in a standalone player.
Edit:
Since the last few posts are dealing with subs and We Own The Night and NOT Gone Baby Gone, perhaps a mod can move this.
