lol no, it's dumbass. I've never heard the expression dumbarse used - the two words just simply aren't combined that way.

That is a little bit outside of his price range. in his first post he said that he didn't want to spend alot and i don't think that he will be using it for gaming. and about the psu. he doesn't need 550 or 600watts running that cpu with a low end card.the thermaltake 430 will be more than enough and it is cheaper than the others.

AMD CPUs are fine, but they're slow considering how expensive they are.
Stick with the Intel CPU, a reasonably priced Gigabyte Mobo, some Corsair memory and a Corsair PSU. Cheap, but reliable and quite fast.

Do you guys have any suggestions for memory that can be overclocked. Its gotta be good memory that can handle high end applications like maya. And in a pack of like 2gb. And maybe some instructions on how to overclock memory. Can kingston be overclocked? because i have two 1gb sticks here but i also want to get 2 more. thnx

well you wont really need to OC it past 450FBS so ANY 1066 ram will do. even the cheap crap.

Not any old 1066mhz RAM, after all, the Crucial ballistix stuff won't even manage the 1066mhz it's rated for. The Corsair stuff you've posted isn't 1066mhz so it will limit your overclock, depending on your CPU's multiplier. For best results, use:

Received all the parts and put together within 2 hours. And only cut myself once!!! Anyway, booted up on first try!!! Runs great but i cant seem to get the overclocking options to stay. Everytime i set them it restarts 3 times and then goes back to 1.8ghz Does anyone know what exactly i have to set thru the mobo? Trying to get it to 3.2ghz. thnx

the settings for your overclock are bad. set the pci slot at 100mhz. memory and cpu voltages and memory timing at manual. to get memory setting press ctrl + f1 at the main bios screen. then try overclocking again. i had the same problem with mine when i got it. i was stuck with it rebooting but i finally got the settings right.

3.2 from 1.8 isn't easy to do in one hit, it isn't stable unless you do some major tweaking. Try for 2.7Ghz first then slowly work up. Remember to set the memory multiplier correctly.

you got the gigabyte ds3l right? if you did then hitting control + f1 adds memory timings to the overclocking menu. here are my setting, just remember that they might not work for you and i don't recommend using these right away. try setting the fsb at 300 to start.

fsb 345
mult 9
SPD 2.4(clocks my ram at 828. you can set lower if you don't want to stress the ram)
voltage 1.36250

and depending on how much you have your ram overclocked you may need to add .1 voltage to that to. and in the advanced bios features disable C1E for better stability.

Its something with the memory. I tried to use the settings listed above but wheni put 2.4 it doesnt boot just to the screen where it says xp then restarts. I tried using auto but that doesnt boot either. And also tried 2.0 the lowest setting which also fails. Any help?
