You've switched addresses so many times (or so it seems) that I don't remember which one is which. You should PM me the proper ones again. :-)

'fraid i for one don't like ideas like this, one reason (out of a few) is that it would just take forever on a site like this/as big as this; well more than forever. It would only work on a real small site;
While it's on my mind there's a work-related forum i know of, with professional IT members. It was a great site for many years, information you needed to solve very complex work issues etc. Then a points type system was introduced. Guess what happens now - some of the most respected people on there spend far too much time talking about/chasing up points for posts. Just bizarre, and quite pointless.
Great for people with (far too much) time on their hands, not great for any kind of useful constructive reason.

It's easy enough to just drop a "thanks" post on the end of some really good information. Twice in the last month I have felt the need to specifically thank somebody for really good info about dvd-a and the encryption/menus and other subfustication that is used.

yeah i think 'thanks' is sufficient; granted a lot of posters don't come back and actually thank anyone but it's certainly less time consuming; must admit i don't normally thank regulars who have helped noobs but the sentiment is there regulars :)

no idea, think there's a thread somewhere detailing the amount of users at that time... but there's probably about 1376 times the population of China (and that's just in the DVB forums) :P

LOL! Yea I briefly looked around, but couldn't find it. I just wanted to compare it to another forum I belong to that has a system like this that seems to be well maintained.

Well maintained with 200 members is one thing... well maintained with 300,000 members is quite another.
All this ranks/karma etc stuff is BS. I have only ever seen it ruin communities, not add to them.

755,000+
And regarding the "rep system", we've seen such system to "go pear-shaped" on a forum very similar to ours, although bit smaller, thus we have no intention to introduce the karma/rep system to our forums anymore.

The website I'm referring to has 60,000 + members. No where near as many as aD. But no telling how many people are lurking..
Really, I was just bored at work and thought about it, so I posted it here.

Trippy, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day.
Besides, we both know that I'm training to be an aD mod.

@Creaky, with your numbers, aD has about 1.788 trillion members, just slightly over the entire world population of 6 billion. I can see that aD has done well in the new member recruitment department.

who really cares any way if you have a status of member, newbie or senior member. It really doesnt mean anything. I could be new to this site and be smarter than anyone here. I dont know why you guys are all hung up about this rep thing. i think this site's sole purpose is to help people and so whether it be newbie or not, if he's got the answer ill take it. And also i could be a senior member(hint hint) and be dumber than a rock.

I care, I need all the love I can get. I get so lonely and feel left out sometimes. And when I get ripped on by trippy 24/7, I really need those extra rep points to make me feel better.
Will you please be my friend pwhite23?
