Maybe try downloading version 7 and downgrading. Restart and try uninstalling from there through add remove programs.

I know this must be frustrating for you but I have plenty of time as I've broken my hand (you've probably noticed all my posts of late) and I'm typing with my left.

and until i can get rid of it, i cant get another system up and running, so im nekkid on the interent, so to speak.

im half tempted just to delte the file folder.

Also can you give me a list of all programs installed on your system?

I need you to uninstall any security software, disable fiewall in windows, disable windows defender, uninstall winpatrol also.

I'll check out the list you send me and let you know what else to uninstall.

Uninstall:
Winpatrol
If windows defender is part of vista disable it. If not uninstall this too.
Spybot S&D

Once completed restart then disable any processes AVG might be using from the task bar.

done all that. AVG is turned off (and wont turn on -- thus just ONE of the problems). there is nothing running that uses it to my knowledge. still get the error.

maybe here is a problem (and leads me where I DONT want to go but may have to).

i was checking into a system restore before it went bad -- found one where i know was working and not too much to have to restainll.

click to begin restore and .... windows has detected a file system corruption on C: drive. i must check disc for errors.

I'll do that on startup, but im thinking the best/easiest thing to do is give up and start again! (sometimes i hate vista).

ok. im at my end point. im just gonna do a clean vista install -- since apparently my restore wont work now either.

i'll have to contact dell about how to do freaking driver install again ...... this is SOOOOOOOO not worth it!

Have you tried doing a scan on C drive to check for errors.
right click on C: drive / error checking.

i gave up and started from scratch.

the entire AVG file was corrupted; it wouldn't even allow me to do a system restore. and AVG was not responding to my tech requests.

my internet provider gives macafee as part of the cost so :) im back to being fast and clean and safe.
