Have you tried to put your original c@ble receiver back on to see if you have any problems with that?.

Yep, tried that and although I just have the basic package all the channels I'm supposed to be getting are coming through fine. The picture can degrade a little in very bad weather as the supply I'm getting is an overhead one and I'm at the end of the line.

When I put the original N*L box on the cable I get all the channels I'm supposed to and the picture is fine and the same applies to the channels I am getting with the EuroVox so why would the signal be strong enough to display some channels and not others? I'm sure there is a reason you guys will understand but I don't.
Should I get a signal booster and if so can anyone recommend one?
This is really annoying me now!!!

Hi ben apologies for not getting back to you, this was one that got lost with the rest, on the channels that work press info twice and report back the signal strength and do the same with the non working channels, watch out for fluctuation with the signal jumping up and down.

Hi lad's,
I've run through +/- 30 channels to gather the info.
I basically have three situations:-
1. Channels which are coming through loud and clear
2. Channels which are coming through but are stuttering/blocky/scratchy
3. Channels which are listed and have data in the EPG but have "No Signal" or "Searching for Signal"
Signal strength for the channels which are coming through loud and clear range from 72% to 83% for both Level and Quality.
Signal strength for the channels which are coming through but stuttering/blocky/scratchy are 71% but I can't find many of them this evening. It seems to be either a great picture or no picture at all this evening.
Signal strength for the channels which are listed in the EPG but show "No Signal" or "Searching for Signal" are generally 78% to 80% but some hover around 71% to 73%. I did notice however that on some channels like BBC2 and BBC World the signal strength spikes up to 99% for a split second and then back down to its 'normal' level and similarly I've also noticed that some channels like the City Channel and CNBC drop off to 8% and then back up to their 'normal' level of +/- 78%.
Does this diagnose the problem?

Definitely sounds like a cable problem. Have you got a box supplied the your provider and if so what is that like?

Hi Scouser,
If you mean what is the picture like on the originally supplied N*L box it's fine. All the channels I' supposed to be getting on the basic package are coming through fine.
Am I being a thicko here by asking how can one channel come through loud and clear at a signal strength of 73% yet others have no signal at all with a signal strength of 78%?

I would call them out if you have the basic package and tell them at times that channels break up and could they check your set up, it sounds like a CC problem especially when your signal is jumping up to 99% and with other channels down to 8%. I had a similar problem a few weeks back and they moved my position in the cab, problem solved, give that a try and report back.

Apologies,
CC is Cable Company and Cab for street Cabinets, either way they will check your set up for any problems.

Hi, Ben there are 3 possible things that i can think of that may be worth considering.
1. you say you are at the end of a line and sometimes the cable fitters put in there own splitters outside the property (usually but not always hidden) to save time and money, these can be affected by weather and wildlife.
2. if you do phone them up connect your original ntl box back up first as they can see which channel you are watching, reset the box,etc on their side and ask what the power level is, with their broadband anything outside -11 to +11 is considered a problem so the signal coming down the same line probably follows the same parameters.
3. The snr (signal to noise ratio) may be an issue, i think their acceptable range is 29-55 if they quote above or below then the issue will usually be there.
My regards to hitek and scouser as i have only just joined this site (an hour ago, i have often visited this site however) and been very impressed with the your knowledge and succint replies hope i'm not being to crass with my advise and ben hope you get a swift resolution .
