WTF mate. I've been through many hurricanes. Remember hurricane Andrew, Alicia, or Gilbert? I have lots of family that lives near the gulf. Beaumont, Galveston, Houston, Winnie, Port Arthur. So, I'm not insensitive. Only f*cking thing I said was why do people want to live in places like that or Louisiana when they get hit so hard. Reasons why my family lives there is because they work in those regions. Some people live there just to live there - mind boggling to say the least!
And all the personal attacks can stop. Just because I made a point that living in such a harsh area isn't a good idea, doesn't mean that you need to cry about it - get over it already! Pull up your pampers and move on.
BTW, I doubt we will even see that much rain from Ike. All rain dissipates over Austin, then rebuilds when it passes. Has been happening the last 4 months,

Actually the point I was making was that according to the last link in my post freedom should be obtained at any cost no matter how moral or immoral things may be to different cultures. I'm sure the only thing offensive to you about my language is that you would be called for using the same terms. My bad..../me must not let power go to head. The natural disaster links were simply coincidental. As each year passes the chances of the other less common occurrences increases. Sorry to have caught you up in the middle of one of my moments, but this is the thread that I read directly after the news in the link I posted. Sometimes I think censorship is a good thing as well as some freedoms shouldn't be had.

Well, I live in Corpus Christi, and have had to evacuate for 3 storms - Gilbert, Brett, & Rita. If Ike comes this way, then that means 4 evacuations for this area in 20 years. That's not really bad odds, when you look at it. We usually get hit double down here, as when the storms come in from the gulf, we get pounded from one side. When the rain hits San Antonio and the hill country, we get it again...this time from all the flooding from the rivers as we are downstream.
Living in these areas you just get used to it. Your fisrt storm gets you nervous. After that, you just prepare and watch the weather. You just learn to take it in stride. Besides, the coast is a nice place to live. Watching the sunrise/sunset over the open water....well, that's a thing of beauty to watch!!
Right now, Ike has about 5-7 days before it hits the U.S., maybe a day or 2 longer.

Well we're just getting the tail end of your hurricane over here in Ireland, nothing big, just lots of heavy rain and pretty windy!
But i guess we're pretty lucky over here, we don't have any hurricanes, droughts, heavy snow, volcanoes anything like that.
Of course we haven't had that much sun the last couple of years either! ;)

I did forget "blight". Since I haven't seen any news about potato blight in my lifetime, I assume that problem has been solved. That misery actually brought a large number of your good people, to become our good people. You must be getting the remains of Hanna. Have a good one. Rain is always good.

Nope, they still get potato blight. Just people don't depend on them as much as they did back then. But on the weather services they say whether it's potato blight weather or not.
Anyway, glad to hear u came throught it all ok. :)

Told you bro, wasn't going to happen. We didn't see one damn drop of rain. Can you believe that? Hurricane is 900 miles wide and NOT one drop! Now for the rest of my family down in Port Arthur, Baytown, and Beaumont, they weren't so lucky.

I'll bet that little butt was just quivering wondering if Ike was going to turn or come across Austin. Your time will come soon enough. And I see you have "not so bright family members" in harms way. Port Arthur was hit hard. My condolences, not contempt, to them! You be sure to tell them how stupid they are for living in harm's way, the next time you see them.

Oh trust me, I tell them that every time I see them. A lot of them are off shores half the time, so It doesn't really matter I guess. Most of my family that lives down in those areas are there because of the oil business, so I guess they have no choice. Either way man, it sucks that people live in areas like that. Then have EVERYTHING wiped out and the state has to spend BILLIONS of dollars rebuilding everything! Crazy if you ask me, I don't care what you say.

Well, for almost the past 2 weeks, we have had debris wash up on the shore from hurricane ike down here. We have had everything from chairs, tables, kids toys, toiletries, roofs, computer monitors, life guard stands (Yes, half of an entire stand washed up), and other stuff has been washing up. There is a warning to not walk on the beach barefoot as there is alot of debris with nails sticking up out of it.

I guess the crabs got the bodies of the fools who thought they would just have a hurricane party at the beach house. Amazing what alcohol and/or drugs will do.
Bummer it messed your beaches up. We still have large piles of debris trees on the roadsides. They did clean my neighborhood tho.

Well, if they dumped all the branches and trees into the gulf, they will probaby be washing up in a few days!!
Right now, all the beach combers and scavangers are having a field day. News casts are still doing stories on what is washing up atleast 3-4 times a week. First time a 12'x12' roof washed up with 'Property of Galveston, TX' on it was a shock. Now, it's just a nuisance.
