Hey there gm
I concur - get an older unit to mod. A friend of mine has a broken one - analogue stick (I already modded it) that may be fixable but more on that in another thread & after xmas if interested :)

Hi, I just trying to do some research before I buyt myself a PSP Slim 2000 and I came across this thread where it stated...."TA-088 v3 - This comes out with the 4.XX firmware (where X is the any number). This is the worst of all the motherboards you can get. This motherboard can not be hacked"

Is this still a true statement?

I have a pandora battery and the magic stick that my brother used to mod his slim psp. Even with this I will not be able to mod a slim PSP with a motherboard TA-088 v3?

Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thx.

@atellar1
Yes as of right now that is a true statement. It will depend on what firmware was factory installed.
Where are you getting it from - can you check the the bar code?

You can still try to mod it - again it will depend on what firmware was on it right out of the box - modding psp guide.

Thx. for the quick reply.

I plan to get it at Fry's Electronics. I'll check the bar code to see if there's any reference to the the letter G or higher. The one that I got for my son at Amazon did not have the same type of bar code that is referred to in this Thread.

In any case I'll go and check thx again.

Not a problem atellar1

You're probably already aware of this but the other psp that can't be modded right now is the PSP3000.

Is there a way to identify an unmodable motherboard before purchase? I bought a PSP-2001 which turned out to be unmodable. The firmware was 4.01 and the datastick wouldn't run when we tried to mod. I returned it.

Thanks for any info.

Please, I have same request as sengtsan.
The last sentence of step four is formulated really badly so I'm confused.
I'm sure I have a TA-088 board as I disassembled my PSP for that.

If I use the 390ipl, the green light stays on. Then I use the 405ipl and the green light comes on and then immediately goes off (still dark display). Is the mobo a TA-088 v3 ?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, for all the confusion. I have a lot of stuff to do such as education... I updated the guide hoping it will help, if anyone wants to reword my grammer (I know its horrible ...lol), you are willing to. Just send me a pm and I will try to squeeze my time.

As again, sorry for the all of the English errors, third year learning English and still suck ... oh yeah, for the guide I made about the TA-088 v3 identifier. It was not made by me, i just copied it from Dark Alex (A Spanish programmer). Well, hope this guides can help all the the AfterDawners *lol*.

if the original firmware was lower than 4.02 then yes otherwise it's a TA-088v3 motherboard.

Ok I might be completely retarded and can't read however I will ask. I have a psp slim, the blue one that came with the madden pack. I have the 1 gb card that came with it. I am trying to downgrade the software I currently have 5.03 installed. I followed the guide here: when I go to access the files to start making the battery it says that: This game cannot be started. The data is corrupted. All the files are give me the same. If someone could point me to an idiot proof guide to downgrade the psp software that would be great. Thanks.

your gonna need a pandora for that and to make one you are gonna need access to a pre-hacked psp

See the G there?

PSP-2000 CW
100v
G

That G is that letter. Here's a list that I found:
(No Letter) = 3.60
A = 3.71
B = Unknown
C = 3.72
D = Unknown
E = 3.80
F = 3.90
G = 3.95 (TA-088v1) / 4.01 (TA-088v2) / 4.01 (TA-088v3)

If the letter is absent or from A to F, then it's hackable. If it's a G, it's 60 to 67% Hackable. If something else, It's unhackable (Unless if it's a TA-090v1 Motherboard).

Basically, you cannot always tell from the box - unless you made a note of what the firmware was when you bought it as soon as you out it out of the box.
If you don't know and have a "G" on the box, its a lottery!

I've been modding PSP's for a couple of months now...never encountered a TA-088v3 motherboard....i think...

What would happen if I tried to mod one that has the bad mobo? (using a hard modded pandora battery and pandora magic stick...M33-4)
Will I brick the PSP??...or will it simply not load up?

Of course I'm scared to brick someone's PSP and have to pay for it...if it simply doesn't load or turn on, and I can tell the owner that Sorry...simply can't do it...then that would be a good thing in my book.
