Wrap a penny in electrical tape so you can't see any copper. Do this 4 times so you have 4 pennies. Take an exacto knife and seperate the pink pad from the poster puddy like material off the ram chips on the back of the board. Take the pennies and push them onto the poster puddy. Put the board back in the tray along with your xclamp replacement and then overheat the xbox making a wall around the dvd drive and barely cooling the cpu. It's easiest to buy a thermometer and monitor the temp for the gpu heatsink, this way you can see how effective your gpu wall is. I usually move the fan around while trying to cool only the gpu, you can keep reducing airflow to the cpu to get the gpu to run even hotter.

After about 6-8 mins your fan speeds will start to increase. You'll see that on the thermometer every couple degrees will increase voltage to the fan. Let the xbox top out the fan, and it should get hot enough where it just turns itself off (after 15-20 mins). Let it sit for a while to cool down then try to power it on.

Remember you should have only 4 pennies while doing this. I've never had success with any other penny method.
so 1 penny per tape?

he means wrap 4 pennies in tape individually and then stack them.

I probably should have wrapped them individually but i just stacked 3 pennies and superglued them together and then wrapped the stack in tape

i found it hard tp secure the board back into the tray without a super amount of flexing with 3 pennies. so i imagine with 4 pennies and the putty it is a very tight fit.
C4 do all your ports matched up good?

What don't you get about 4 pennies total?

4 is not 16

1 penny per chip, 1 puddy per chip

If you measure it the height of the penny plus the puddy is 4mm. With everything secured the puddy is being pushed down and the only thing that flexes is the puddy.

Like i said 4, not 16

If you use too many pennies you'll usually get error 0020

This is what I thought, but why are others using more pennies per chip?

ok i thought you meant 4 pennies per chip cause all other tuts and everyone else uses at least 3 per chip without the MS putty stuff. so my bad, never heard of anyone using only 1 penny and when i tried it i got no results until i removed and added more to up the pressure level. of course that was on a unit that had red ringed like 4 times and been fixed with xclamp only everytime. but i figured eventually that putty will become weaker and weaker till the pressure is relieved enough to cause the same problems over again. i just throw that pads MS puts in there out.

Well it's back, the xbox was working flawlessly for about 10 hours straight and then the next morning we powered it on and gpu errors are back. No e-74 anymore just a really degraded picture.

I think i'm going to take the dvd drive off and maybe wrap the heatsinks (gpu and hana/ana)in tin foil. We'll see either way i might be sending this board out to get reflowed.
